I have a friend who is looking to have new carpet made for a '96 Regal bowrider. The existing carpet is original and is a low pile snap in type. Does anyone have any experience with this type of replacement that can give the name of a vendor worthy of contacting. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Contacting Regal is definitely on his list of options, but I honestly think that he would rather put the money into the Lakes Region economy if at all possible.

Interestingly enough on a boat that old the replacement might not be available through the manufacturer. However we had a old and I mean old Bayliner from back before they where bought by Brunswick, and we called them about a cover. We found out that they sold all the pre Brunswick patterns to a family. We contacted the family and sure enough they had the original patterns and where willing to make a cover for us. However even they admitted that it would be cost effective just to have a custom shop make a new cover because that is basically how they priced there quotes. The only advantage to using them was that we wouldn't have to deliver a boat to them.( note the cost for this cover would have also included shipping the cover from Washington State to New England )

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some premium indoor outdoor carpet, cut to size using the old ones as a template, have the pieces bound on the edges, put new snaps in (the tool is cheap and handy to have).
I did my old boat 4 seasons ago and it still looks great- they have worn like iron! See pics in my link in profile. |
