Who on the lake is good with electronics. I'm thinking of upgrading my GPS/Fishfinder and installing a fixed mount VHF. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Still stuck in the mud here....Van Works doesn't do VHF Radios. It's seems cell phones have killed VHF on Winnipesaukee. One last ask for help...can anyone recommend a VHF expert on the big lake?

Hi, Pjard, not sure if you got my earlier message. ..
May I suggest you send me a contact via my profile as a P/M or an email I can install whatever you are looking for. Many yards around here charge astronomical labor rates IMO. Unfortunately many outfits do not have the time, or in some cases simply do not specialize in navionics. One suggestion is to go to the ABYC website and make contact with a member in your area. Ive installed sytems from simple bilge pumps, KVH sat tv, Marine air, Espar, 15 years of electrical troubleshooting, Flir cameras, AIS, SSB, VHF.. interfacing.. 0183.. 2000.. garmin.. simrad.. furring.. ray.. Up until moving to NH, I have worked for a number of high end yacht builders on the Maine Coast. I Would love to at point you in the right direction. Hope this helps. I can be mobile. Installing a VHF radio is a piece of cake.
Try Chris jones at speed of sound. He is out of barrington but is mobile. He has gone to gilford for me a few times to do marine stereo and gps installs. |

If VHF is "dead", who are you going to hail on your radio once it's installed?

Good question...there are still plenty of folks on Winnipesaukee using VHF, especially fishermen and guides. When I use the term "dead", I was talking about new installations.

Just got my new baby from Winnisquam marine with 3 gps/sonars (2 networked together with a common side scan transducer, 1 connected to a Minn Kota iPilot link trolling motor) and a vhf radio. Complex gps/sonar install! All working well so far. Not fast service, but done well.

Downeast, a.k.a. Nick just finished up my VHF radio installation. I can not say enough good things about him. He is a great worker, very thorough and an all around good guy. I would strongly recommend him for anything you might need done on your boat(s).

I want to second the positive comments for Downeast - he did a great job on our installation, and I highly recommend him. Nick was very thorough and paid great attention to detail, and I felt his prices were very reasonable. If I have other marine electronic work in the future I will definitely give him a call!

Hi welcome back everyone. The season arrived early as ice out was near record breaking. Trades persons in the boating industry were able to get a head start on the ever-growing pile of floating toys, well sort of, but it didn't mean we were ahead as the early the launch also awakened the phone to ring earlier. Cant catch a break. Alas.
Anyhoo, glad to see everyone is well into their 2nd lawn mowing and at least well into their first tank of fuel for the boating season. As the weather gets even better, those of you that need repairs or boat electrical work to your vessel might be hard pressed to have your local outfit fit you in. That said, I am back again, though I never left, to help you all with this sort of thing. Over the winter I did have time to build a site, so you may wish to check it out here at www.nwmarineindustries.com Again welcome back everyone and be safe out there! Thanks to all of my friends I have met along the way. |

I've heard good things about Downeast as well, it is better to stick with someone that does marine work, and is familiar with boats, than say a Vanworks that doesn't.

I commented on another thread but Downeast is truly a class act.
