I have two sliding doors that are about 40 years old. They’re in good shape but keep getting more and more difficult to slide. I think they are in need of new wheels. Does anyone know of someone who has done that or could help me? Thanks.

Do you know the brand?
It may be etched on the glass or have some label hidden in the head jamb. When you slide open the door and look up, any identifier there? |

Have used Granite State glass in the past with okay results. If they are old parts may not be available

A while ago (maybe 7 or 8 years ago) I had a similar problem. Found the band name and some replacement rollers (in Lowe's maybe). Removed the door and laid on the floor. But the replacements weren't quite right, didn't fit well. But the old rollers were jammed up with dust. Cleaned them, sprayed on silicon lube, reinstalled. Been smooth as silk ever since. One finger to pushed the door open/closed.

Thank you very much for your help. I found Guardian’s website so they are still in business. I’m going to be reaching out to them for the parts. Not sure I want to try installing them myself so I will be calling around. I appreciate all of your help.

Guardian may be just the glass.
Guardian and Cardinal are the two plate glass manufacturers in the US (maybe even North America) and are used by all the brands. For hardware on a really old unit, I might try Truth Hardware. |

There are several bands of lubricants. Cheap and easy to try first. Any hardware store.

I had a door with a cracked pane in it and had Granite State Glass do the glass replacement. When they came out they also serviced the door and did a great job. That was 10 years ago and it still works great.

So after reading all of your ideas, I decided to contact Granite State Glass and I’m glad I did. They were extremely responsive, professional and reasonable. The next day they arrived on time and disassembled the door to determine the parts required that needed ordering. Yesterday they installed the new rollers and the doors operate like or better than new. As it turned out, they were Anderson doors and I saved thousands of dollars versus replacing them. I highly recommend Granite State Glass.

They put on a new Shower Glass Door for me last year and they did an excellent job with it.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them again...... |

Pemi Glass in Meredith does good work. Usually less expensive than Granite State Glass. May want to check with them.
