Default Gilford Accident

There's a serious accident on the 3 bypass in Gilford. Road has been closed. Been listening on the scanner and it sounds bad. Prayers to all involved.

Two people killed in crash in Gilford, N.H.
By Nick Stoico Globe Staff,Updated July 13, 2024, 54 minutes ago

Two drivers were killed after their vehicles collided on a highway in Gilford, N.H., on Saturday, police said.

The crash was reported just before 6 p.m. on the Route 3/11 bypass between Gilford Avenue and Lakeshore Road, according to Gilford Police Lieutenant Adam VanSteensburg.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene, VanSteensburg said. He said they were both adults, but no further information about the victims was immediately available.

VanSteensburg said both victims were driving SUVs and heading in opposite directions on the highway, which carries traffic from Belmont to Gilford and bypasses downtown Laconia in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.

An early investigation indicated one of the drivers heading north left the roadway and overcorrected, sending their vehicle into the southbound lane where they collided with the second vehicle, according to VanSteensburg.

He said the Belknap Regional Accident Investigation Team was at the scene and investigating the crash Saturday evening. State Police and the Gilford Fire Department also responded, he said.

The crash in Gilford came a day after an 8-year-old girl was killed and her brother was seriously injured in a crash about 20 miles south on Route 106 in Loudon on Friday.
