So, measured the Lake Winnipesaukee lake water with a different mercury thermometer and it was 39 on Wednesday as opposed to 44 the day earlier. Lake water needs to get down to 34 before it will freeze, and 39-degrees is actually very warm for Lake Winnipesaukee on January 2.
