Harold Shultz.
Your local Post Worker. The correct identification of those on the Iwo Jima memorial and in Joseph Rosenthal's famous photograph. "The Marine Corps has identified Harold Schultz, a longtime Postal Service employee who died in 1995, as one of the six men in the iconic World War II photograph of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima." Mr. Shultz kept his war contributions quiet. LINK "On Iwo Jima In the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history, 27 Marines and sailors were awarded the Medal of Honor for action on Iwo Jima. No other campaign surpassed that number." "uncommon valor was a common virtue" Admiral Nimitz about Iwo Jima. As I have heard way too frequently. The US military is just a "job". |

Other than a few exceptions there are no ex-Marines.
Once a Marine always a Marine. |
