Sam Adams is still independent in that they are not owned by a foreign company like Anheuser-Bush and Miller/Coors, but they are not privately owned (i.e. they are a public company--Boston Beer Company (ticker SAM)). Yuengling in Pennsylvania is the largest of the independents.
