Moultonborough Trails
I received notice that our landowners have opened their sections of the trails. Our trails are now open for riding. Please note that we are doing very limited grooming at this time (mostly rolling and some panning). I still need to check on the Red Hill gate near the fire tower, as we do not have a key to that.
I am planning on panning the corridor from Ambrose Cove to Meredith tonight. Cover is thin, please take it easy on the throttles so the snow lasts as long as possible!! Regards, John Harrington |

Resist the temptation and wait for snow. You don't want your new sleds on the trails in their current condition.

We packed and panned most trails, but there is not enough snow to move around or process.

This winter is shaping up to be a real dud. We need a change in the jet stream to get these storms just off the coast so we get the cold side. Sometimes I wonder if owning a sled in New England is worth it.

New hampshah...
On a ride with friends from the camp on Paugus Bay, riding across the Lake and up up and away to the main corridor trail to all points Noth, and even on up to the Saint Lawrence Seaway, on a two week ride. I've been sledding since Years, right from here. Now, there have been winters when there was a lack of snow, but I Never considered selling any of my sleds. In my opinion, just one good winter's riding is Well worth the investment, and the memories are Priceless as well. The word I'm looking for is ( Patience ). Isn't that what life is all about. If something is not worth waiting for, what is the sense?? The picture that I posted was taken up at Twin Mountain, and I have a great number of photos in the winter PhotoPost Gallery. The snow is on the way... Terry _____________________________________________ Here's a pic of one of my sleds at the Summit of Mount Shaw. The Ossipee's are AWESOME, and so is the Lake with all of the winter activities.

Patience. I have that. I'm a bowhunter! Patience runs thin at the end of January. No snow until February makes for a very short season.

Thankfully I am off to Pittsburg next Thursday! Any places with rideable trails not that far up for this weekend? Haven't seen any reports since Sunday's rain.

How low can it go?
Quote:
Woke up Sunday morning to -38. There were 18 of use staying there. The bathroom of the Cabin was on pilings, Yes the water line to the toilet Froze. 10 feet away the tub hot water was still running, took a "Waste" Basket and filled the bowl with warm water and yes it would Flushed. Several of the guys went out to start their Cars/Trucks then came right back in with the news that none of the cars would turn over let alone Start. Some of them went back out and removed the batteries, brought the in to the cabin and put the on the wood stove to thaw them out. Someone found a small battery charger in their trunk, it really did not do much. We decide to pack all our gear away and go have breakfast. Finally around noontime they (Tall Timer, Tom or his brother) brought the old Army truck over, must have had one heck of a Generator in it, and with in a half hour got everyone stared. Other than that it was a great 4 days of riding. WINNOCTURN Last edited by WINNOCTURN; 01-21-2015 at 04:08 PM. |

Start doing the snow dance
The trails need snow badly, but it doesn't look like Moultonborough will get epic proportions like forecast for NY and Boston. 8-14" seems to be the consensus. We'll see...

Yes I justed posted this to FB as well. It is corridor 15 coming a mile or so from where the trail crosses Ambrose Cove coming from Ossipee. The section closed is just as the trail crosees Shaker Jerry Rd.
We are working on it- at a minimum we will sign a detour. It was closed by the landowner due to irresponsible riding |

Future snow
The Intellicast forecast calls for three more snowfalls over the next 10 days. Each to deliver 3+ inches. Cumulatively that should set up some nice riding if they all deliver. If they all maxed out what is predicted it could add another 2+ feet of snow in total by Fri, Feb 6th.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. |

1/28/15 Update
We are currently packing the dry snow with rollers. We will start grooming (processing snow) once enough riders get out. I anticipate that we will have all major trails groomed by Sat AM (I usually finish Red Hill at 0800, then stop in at the Village Kitchen to see the riders that are usually there).
I have been told that the closed section of trail will be re-opened Friday Night, so the Corridor will be back open. The Skelley's/Suissevale side of town has seen a fair amount of riding so I intend to groom that tonight. Please be aware that we are performing some grooming Ops during the day. The Tucker will be out tomorrow on the Corridor from Meredith to Tedeschi's and Red Hill packing snow. We are also expecting a little more snow Friday night- happy riding!!! John Harrington |

Moultonborough Trail Report
The 50 miles I put on the machine today on Moultonborough trails was great. There is 8-12 inches of fresh snow. Some trails on the neck were rolled last night and are in excellent shape. Other trails hadn't been touched and were still fine. The trail from Ambrose to the Castle was good. The Castle trails to Shaw had just been packed, but there was a lot of snow up top and the packer left a lot of big piles and its tracks. I don't think it was pulling a drag. A few times, steering got interesting. Note, Watch out on the ice! There is a bigger stress crack than normal in Moultonborough Bay, running from Elkins Point into Smith Cove. I did not find a safe place to cross it. After thinking I had found a non-jutted crossing with only about 5 feet of clear ice across it, I went quickly, but the ice broke behind me. Good thing I was going 20 mph. It isn't skimming if it is ice in front of you and water behind you, right?

Latest Trail Condition MSC
Here is the link to the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club Trails Report.
http://moultonborosmc.org/trail-maps/trail-conditions/ With the snow we got yesterday and what we will hopefully get Friday we could have the Best Weekend of riding in the "LAKES AREA" so far this Season. Give the Groomers time to get out and get the Trials setup so it will last for more the a day or two. WINNOCTURN OH, for all of those who have not joined a Club or our Club, we have applications available at DaSilva's , EM Heath (Hardware) and Skelly's. If you have sent in an application to MSC this week, I do not usually get them till Friday or Saturday. If there is an ERGENT need for your NHSA Card you can contact me at winnocturn@roadrunner.com and I can e-mail you a memo stating your membership in the Club and your NHSA Card Number. If you sent in your Application last week or before, it was processed and put in the mail this past Monday. Don't know what effect the "STORM" may have on deliveries? We groomed the Skelley's to Castle lot/Suissevale trails tonight. It came out pretty good thanks to the riders who took it easy and a bit of sun!

Update 2/3/15
We are packing down the 8 or so inches of snow that we received prior to grooming it. If you are around town, please get out and ride easy on the trails to assist. We anticipate being able to groom all trails before the weekend- they should be in fantastic shape with the new snow!

I gotta say it...
You folks at MSC do a great job of keeping the snowmobile public aware of trail conditions, good and bad, trail closures, rides, etc..
I do not own a snowmobile, though I did quite a bit of riding back in the early to mid 80's. I can only imagine that the riders of today would love to see all the clubs in the lakes region post info like MSC does. I know that there is also info on other social media. Just in case no one has said it to you folks in a while...thanks for what you do to let the snowmobilers in your area know what is going on. It has to benefit the businesses in your area, and if other clubs would realize that side benefit of them taking the time to do a few posts, it would be a win-win for their club and the local businesses around them. Thanks for all you do.

We turn around on Coe Hill on the Ctr Harbor/ Meredith line. I believe the Bureau of Trails wants to improve the trail from there into Meredith.
