I plan to do the same thing, crossing between Sheps over to Bear Island on Saturday morning on foot. Gonna have an ice auger with us just to be sure, we'll drill holes as well but I can tell you that at least that ice was looking real good on Sunday (see pics I posted earlier) so it's no doubt good to go now. Cattle landing was still open water from there looking out towards Timber and Governor's Island so whatever ice is there is new as of Monday.
