Stolen Kayaks in Tuftonboro
Sad to say, our two kayaks were stolen sometime this week in Tuftonboro. They were on the side of the house on 19-mile Bay, not very visible, next to the canoe and Sunfish. They were a red and blue Necky brand. Approximate sizes 10 and 12 feet, sit-in cockpit and skeg.
I just checked the classified section and also craigslist -- nothing there. If anyone happens to see them, I'd appreciate a message. Thank you. |

Might want to...
Check the local pawn shops and the likes too. Do you have serial numbers and pictures I hope? Good luck! Hope they make their way back home. Very disturbing to be the victim of theft.

Sorry to hear about this
Are there any distinguishing marks on either kayak? Unique color patterns, dings and dents, logos, aftermarket accessories, etc.?
Pictures and any and all information would be great. I'm sure that many here would be more than happy to keep an eye out for the kayaks during their travels, whether by boat or on the road. Here's to hoping a for quick recovery! |

More Detail... And Neighbor Lost 2 Also
Thanks for the replies.
Both are Necky. The red "Gannett" kayak is 10-12' with skeg on a black cord and cleat. No watertight compartment. Elastic cord crossed on bow. Pretty basic, about 10 years old. The blue "Sky" Necky is shorter, same features (skeg & elastic). Both have sit-in cockpit. I do have bow serial numbers. Neighbor lost 2 yellow LLBean kayaks. Not sure about length, but pretty basic models. Thanks. |

Mark your purchases
Strong advice is to take a soldering iron and carve your name and number on the kayaks. It will be much more difficult for someone to remove. The thiefs needs to fill in the markings. Bad move to put your address on your items.
Many stolen items are pawned out of state, so I don't expect to see local items in Craigslist or local pawn shops.

Thieves - one of the lowest forms of scum on earth. This story is disgusting. I hope you find the kayaks and also the dirtbags who stole them.

Not ours, but same model
Thanks for the replies. That post on craigslist is not ours but it is the same model and color. Ours has an after-market skeg with a cord on a cleat right at the back of the seat.
We may try pawn shops; I'm not sure whether they will cooperate. They probably get calls about stolen items all the time. The police said they would make inquiries and list the serial numbers in a national database. |

On my soapbox. The more I see all the randon killings and shooting of LEO's,the more I say just kill them right there on the spot.Sounds kind of severe but I think the penalties are just the opposite. What does this have to do with this thread?Assuming the criminals are caught and assuming they have anything of value, after the stolen items are recovered or paid for the victim should be allowed to take items of equal value from the theives to feel the same loss...plus the lawfull punishment.

Insured?
Are the kayaks insured? I have my 20' boat, canoe & rowboat under
one policy. Dave M |

Value Under Deductible
The value of the two kayaks would be under the deductible for our homeowner's insurance since they were 10 years old.
I will need to replace at least one of them, since I used a kayak to get out to our boat on the mooring. As I look around, I see that it's more expensive than I expected. Sigh. |

Shop around
Quote:
She spent about a month looking then we took a motorcycle ride out to make sure it was what she was looking for before making the drive. In the end the seller met us in Concord. Still cost around $600 but it was $1200 new. Sounds very much like what you lost with the drop down rudder. It included a roof rack and high end paddle. Good luck

Buy the Gilford Nekky
The craigslist link that was listed in this string of posts is only asking $225 for the kayak...might be worth looking into.

We got two of our kayaks from a rental outfit that was selling off some of their old boats. (Saco Bound in Conway) They were a little scraped up, but the price was right, and they work fine.
