island dock and mooring installation recommendations

has anyone had great work done on a new dock at a fair price? i recently purchased a cottage on a Gilford island and want to put in a dock and boat lift.

Try Dave Farley at "Diversified Marine" 528-4151. He has done work for me in the past and I was very pleased. He will also handle getting all the permits required.

Congrats on your island cottage purchase!

Dave Farley also did good work for us on a breakwater repair. I do know that he was very busy this year.

We recommend Dean Mason of Mason Marine. He built a beautiful dock for us at 325 Bear for a very good price.

thanks to all for the recommendations! we bought a cottage that needs lots of TLC and rebuilding on Lockes Island. looks like it must have been loved at one time. hope to get it back in shape over the next few seasons. weather has been cooperating so far and have been working out there quite a bit,. gorgeous out there today ...still lots of things to do before real winter finds us.

We had a new breakwater dock,stairs and a mooring put in this past summer on Rattlesnake Island. Winnipesaukee Marine Construction did it all and they took care of all the permits. We love it.

Watermark built a great dock for us. They handled all the permitting, and not only has the dock held up really well, they did a nice design job fitting it into the trees and rocks on the shoreline so it looked like it had always been there.

I have used three dock installation contractors over the years and the best and most reliable (by a wide margin) is Center Harbor Dock & Pier. Get hold of Don Casey over there and he will take care of you.

Dave did our 3 docks and beach. Both came out great, however he does tend to over commit himself and deadlines can sometimes be a problem. I would have someone that specializes in the permitting handle that part. His cell is better, 630-2259. Make sure it sits high enough out of the water, ours is too low and in the spring the water is often over the top.

Depending on what you want for a dock and a lift you may be able to get away with a permit by notification. A single finger lift out can be done by PBN last time I checked as long as you have 75 feet of frontage which I am sure you do. Anything more than that and you would need the typical standard dredge and fill app.

i got a few people out to see the project and should have some estimates soon.
i have been in the Gunstock Acres mooring field for many years and like their steel dock frame with wood deck because it took a licking in all weather. something like that i could maintain myself -welding, replacing decking etc.
what i have been shown is aluminum frame with a removable wood deck. is the aluminum frame a durable enough dock for the North side of Lockes?
codeman ...do want a dock that can lift out so will take a look at the permit by notification option. thanks.

If you want to lift it every winter a watermark crank up is the way to go. Keep in mind with a permanent you will have to run a circulator through the winter. We have 3 permanent docks and have to run 2. On the north side of welch you are pretty exposed so you may be better off getting it out. Breakwaters are an option but very expensive and you have to prove need.

Personally I like the feel of a permanent dock. I wish I had the extra 10' per finger that you can have by using a seasonal though.
