Default Funny . . .

The only time I see my cat swimming is in the winter time when she falls through the ice and I usually don't have my camera on hand.

The rules are that your dog (sorry, no cats unless they are immersed in water and don't look P'd off) must be in or above the water line in some fashion. But the caveat is, that does not include pictures of them in boats (in most cases). So, on the dock is OK, swinging on a rope swing into the water is OK, parachuting from a helicopter into the water is OK, on the gunnels riding in an 18' Wellcraft is not, although I would ask that the moderator to give some leniency in this category; Particularly if the pooch is captaining boats above 20'. Let the posting begin.

I love this place!!!

No longer a puppy, but still not sure what he thinks of swimming even though he LOVES everything else about visiting his grandparents.

Same thing with kids. Could it be the owners?? Don't clean up dog crap , or food & trash left on beaches. Just why my dog can't go 99%
of places on the lake to swim. Never saw my dog litter yet.

Talking My Pumpernickel Pups!

Her are my two Cairn Terriers, Khaleesi (on the right) and Harry.
(His middle name is Drogo! Hers is Daenerys. )

They both don't like getting wet, but they sure like rides on boats! He turned three in April and she turned two in January. They are blood cousins - his papa and her mama were litter mates. I love my little fur babies. They are my surrogate children.

Khalee tried to drive! I wanted to get a picture of her front feet up on the handlebars, but I was afraid I'd drop my phone. Maybe Paul can catch that for me sometime.

Thanks, SS! It is not at all difficult to see pictures of our incredible times with this exceptional dog. He was a absolutely amazing in his love to be with the family and do every thing that we did. Good times. I think that you would have enjoyed meeting him. Mac certainly would have wanted to go for a ride on your PWC with you!

Default Thank you.

When she comes up, she heads straight down the hill for the dock. She does laps off the dock until she is so exhausted she can't get herself back on shore. My sister has had to aid her a time or two.

Back in the 70's my husbands family had a dog. The family would stop at Sawyers, and the dog was always itching to get to the lake. Sometimes they'd let her out and she'd run to the house. When they got home, the dog was in the water. Times have definitely changed since then, and one would never do that now. But cool memories.

Here is Deja on Paugus Bay, jumping between floating chairs.
She has her own float (which wasn't in the water for this pic) that she will jump on/off of randomly throughout the day.
Boxers aren't typically considered water dogs, but this one LOVES the lake.

Great photos of your goldens. Mine doesn't like to swim. But she will if my wife and I are swimming and ducks go by. She's very protective of us and will come in and chase the ducks away. We had a near panic this week when she chased ducks away and wouldn't break off when we called her. She had her e-collar on today just in case it happened again and needed some coaxing.

Thanks, Rick35, for the kind words. I'm sure it was a blast of adrenaline when your dog was continuing to chase the ducks.

Although our dogs have a great time in the water, we try to limit it to once or twice a season as a special treat. Our boy has a long and thick mane and it has to be almost totally dried out after he gets wet. 2 years ago when he was just a lad, we made the mistake of not drying him completely and he got a nasty infection from ear to ear around his neck. Had to have his whole mane shaved and he was on anti-biotics and an anti-biotic spray. Not fun for him or us!

Every night a guy in a pickup truck pulls in at Shep Browns and uses a chuck-it to throw a ball into the lake for his golden. The dog will run down the finger and jump in after the ball. They do this a few times and the dog jumps into the truck bed and away they go. Its a fun thing to watch but I wouldn't want my golden to be soggy every night, not to mention potential health issues and probably dried out skin. A dry golden is a pretty dog. Not so much when sopping wet.

This was the original shot of Bela which I blew up (reason it is slightly out of focus). Now why does it appear sideways this time?? This stuff is maddening at times!

To sit on that rock sideways illustrates the skills that Springers have.

Default Another airedale

We are now a two Airedale (actually easier) family.

This is Brody. We rescued Brody; he just turned 1 in August and he is a sweet boy. He already loves our 9 year old Airedale, Cooper.

I think the first image here meet's Pineedles' original guidelines of a dog in or above waterline. This was our golden somewhere off Dolly (looking north) late one February.
The second is the same dog some years later. We were having the deck replaced at the time. Poor dog went tearing around the corner of the house and up the half-flight of steps .... that weren't really there. Before I rescued him, I had to snap a picture of my dog high-centered on the frame.

Even soft coated wheaten terriers need a rest after chasing the Chase Island ducks off the dock.

Chase ducks, nap, now I'm dressed for dinner. Say chef, what's good? Sure would like to share a meal with that airedale.

Default Sad day

It saddens me to report that we had to release to God our beloved old soul Sampson before the pain of a tumor affected him. Even as a pup he had an old soul demeanor. His partner, Reilly at age 14 is still with us and healthy. She and Sam used to swim furiously toward sticks thrown into the water, racing to be the first to retrieve it. If they arrived at the stick at the same time, they both would clamp down and bring it in together. Some of my best times with Sam were harvesting pheasant. In the picture he is on the right, proud of the day's harvest he made possible. After a hard day hunting, he deserves to sack out on the chair opposite me.

His last trip to the lake was scheduled for Labor Day, but rather than put him through a long car ride we decided to spare him that. Although we could have had Sam with us a bit longer, we decided that before he experienced pain we must do the right thing. In writing this I wanted to tell others in this same situation, it's OK to do the right thing.

So sorry for your loss. We had to put down our two dogs within 3 weeks of each other two years ago. One had cancer, he was 12 and the other stopped eating when the 12 year old was gone. We had to put her down-she went from 18 pounds to 10 in the three weeks. She was 16. We have a new guy in our house-
he keeps us busy. They all had a different personality.

Default Goldens love the water

Our dog Teddy Bear used to love to jump off the dock then get back out of the water. Shake and do it all over again. We really miss him.
