I guess the Gilford Fire/ Rescue boat didn't get the memo that I'm still on the lake... she's gone!

We had lunch at The Breeze yesterday, I missed seeing C-Nile at the dock, figured it was out already.

Oops, view of the middle dock was partially blocked and it was drizzly so we didn't go down to walk the docks like we usually do.

Default Calculated Risk

One day you'll hit a log or that Yamaha will fail or have some water in the gas and these Northern Pass jaunts won't be so much fun with no one on the water to get you.

Thank you for the tails of your adventures! Always love seeing the pictures of the lake in different conditions. Have a great winter. I am hoping for some good ice this year.

Personally I was hoping you'd wait for 1/2" of ice on the harbor before yanking the boat. But seriously as you said your timing was near perfect, got it out just in time to not be dealing with this messy storm.

I really enjoy the pictures and comings and goings of C-Nile, thanks for keeping this thread active! Have a great winter.

You're very welcome....it's fun for me too! One year I waited a little too long and Glendale was snowed in...the truck I had couldn't pull the boat out ( wheels were spinning ) , but luckily, my buddy Codeman was there in the parking lot, and I attatched a tow strap to the front of my truck and the back of his, and the boat came right out. Having to witness his pics and social media posts about my failure and his truck's superiority , I decided there and then to never have to go through the humiliation ever again, so now I watch the forecasts like a hawk and pull the boat before snow!

I have one of those friends. But in my defense, the the boat was on it's fourth fuel sender and the gauge still didn't read right. He made sure to spread this picture around!

Don't get me wrong, I take pictures of other's misfortune as well ( in this case me having to tow my neighbor's broken down boat in for repair ), but you don't see me posting that humiliation on social media! Oh, wait...I just did... nevermind...

In #627 above, is this really candid, or posed? Where is the photographer standing?
Easy when the boat is at rest. I remember refueling in the water ski marathons, WOT, skier, driver and fuerer/observer. We knew ahead of time that we didn't have enough fuel to do the entire 60 mile route at WOT without extra fuel so it was a planned mid-air refuel, twice. For those involved in the races, this was 60 miles x 2. two days commemorating Cap'n Jack Goodhue's 60th birthday and 120 years in operation for Goodhue Boat Yard. Very rough both days, many DNF's.

No, not staged. But I wish it was.

The photographer was on his boat, taking pictures after he brought his lawnmower gas can to me. He lives on Scenic Drive in Gilford facing the Broads. The gauge still showed just under 1/4 full and I was headed to Mountain View to get gas.

Among other things wrong with that boat, I let out about 75 feet of anchor chain when the boat stopped and had to pull it back in by hand because the anchor windlass wasn't working. Line would have been much easier and lighter than all chain!

The boat, a Regal 2700 ES, was the worst boat I have ever operated. It looked great but the handling and mechanical end of things was terrible. It was impossible to keep it level, no matter what you did with the trim tabs and drive. It just rolled from side to side.

It had numerous electronic dashboard failures and it was delivered with a bad U joint in the drive that cause a vibration. Even a factory technician from Regal couldn't find the issue causing the vibration. It was not purchased locally but a Silver Sands mechanic found the problem and it was repaired under warranty.

Thankfully, that boat was sold a few years back.

I also remember an " out of fuel " distress call I received one night...seems this big Monterey was taking an evening cruise and ran out of gas. I brought out a 5 gallon can, but the boat was so empty it wasn't enough to get the engines running. I had to tow them back to their dock next door. Had I known that the snowy Glendale photoshoot would take place, I would have stopped mid-tow and taken plenty of pics of THAT operation!

Default Picturesque!

Yes, very picturesque. But, it makes me recall times when we weren't so environmentally sensitive and we only salted the strip down the middle of the road and the snow was gone in two days. Now, we care about the environment, we salt everything and the road never gets snow covered. I guess nobody owns chains anymore.

I was driving up from MA last night, once I was above Nashua it was changing to freezing rain then snow. Was pretty bad Manchester and above, a few cars off the road.

Chains? Studded tires? Not many of either in this region any more.

This is the first season I have bought studded snow tires. Now that I have them I notice a lot of cars with them. Way more than I expected.

Default Views of the C-Nile

Was kind of a slow late afternoon at work, and I somehow ended up on the Breeze website... I started looking through the pictures they had posted.... funny how many of them included the C-Nile or our vehicles... like Where's Waldo... come for the view, stay for the food! ;-)

We lunched at The Breeze today, walked down to the docks after. Was beautiful out, sunny and warm. Looking out I couldn't lose the feeling that something was missing at the dock ... something there most of the year .... can't quite think of what it might be ....

You're right....sure seems empty without the fireboat there! . Hopefully, you won't see as much of the C-Nile there this year. I really want to cut my commuting work days to 3, and just drive tiki boats on my non commuting days. Then again, I'll have to leave it at Glendale when I drive to Laconia, so maybe it'll be there everyday after all. Island logistics can be a bitch sometimes!
