Default Back Bay Boathouse

Saw this restaurant mentioned in another thread. I was there for dinner on Monday in a party of 10. An overall good experience. We ordered a variety of meals and appetizers. No complaints heard. The staff was pleasant, friendly, and competent. I had the half-rack of ribs w/fries. The french fries passed the crucial tests of crispness, not overly salted, and hot. The ribs were excellently cooked and the meat did "fall off the bones", just the way should be. I did not particularly care for their barbecue sauce. --It wasn't bad and I enjoyed the meal, but I probably wouldn't order the ribs again if the sauce was the same. The meals ordered by those within conversing distance were all well received. This is certainly a restaurant to put on my "I'll be back" list.

Default Back Bay Boathouse

We’ve been so many times at their new location-they were at the Golf Course and called Full Belli Bar & Grill. AMAZING food!

The new deck on the Back Bay opened in the last month...it came out great. I've likely been to the restaurant 10x this year.

I'm a fan of the place, obviously.

Are the docks completed? We're taking a friend out on her maiden jetski voyage later in the week, and this place would be the perfect stop!

They told me today that the dock would be started next week. Currently it's still the one with 2" of duck poop on it :-)

This place was getting killed today—we sent back a plate and the table next to us sent back two. Wait was horrible, and the food was meh.

We had a couple great experiences here, but we're hearing—and experiencing—something much different lately.

There were plenty of servers—ours was spotted chatting with the hostess as we waited with empty drinks—but the kitchen certainly may have been.

It wasn't very busy, though, so if they're that short-staffed, things were only going to get worse as the day moved on.

I wondered because we had a rather reasonable Saturday.
Usually, it is overflowing with weekenders trying to get in just before we close.

But I know a combination of the fair, Parade of Homes, and leaf peeping was keeping them busy.

I thought maybe the other side of the lake was taking the brunt.

Building Supplies.
We had a rather slow Saturday, even though it is a three day weekend; and I felt it may have been due to all the other activities occurring.

Leaf Peepers tend to use the Kanc, fair goers tend to get there early, and the POH people are this year more situated toward that side of the corridor than this side.

Default Another great steak

Nine of us went last night to take advantage of their Sunday night, one dollar and ounce, ribeye special. (ending the weekend before memorial day) Eight of us ordered the ribeye. Some got 10 ounce steaks others like me got 20 oz. It was a great steak, and I was super impressed with the person on the grill and the ability to get all the steaks cooked to various temperatures and out together.

They also have some delicious chicken wings sauces.

Service was attentive and apparent to be very team oriented.

Well worth the 45 minute drive!

good that the restaurant had an incentive to come in . The Corner house use to have winenot on Monday nights. Two full meals with a salad a bottle of wine for 40 dollars. On a typical slow night the place was full. When it was sold the deal was stopped and I haven't been back since

These loss leaders only work for the restaurants when patrons buy a lot of other stuff, such as cocktails, to get a decent total $ margin. In a case where they're giving away the wine too, they end up with essentially nothing but happy customers. This is OK if those folks are going to come back soon at full price...

But what if they end up only attracting super price-sensitive customers, or training their customers to wait for a loss leader night? Then those people split as soon as they have to pay enough for the restaurant to make a profit. A tough business...

If Sunday night became overheated, they would just adjust or end the special.

The general margins rise overtime... but the loss leader is a type of dynamic pricing to incentivize customers using slow periods which increases that customer efficiency.

The night of the 'Party on the Hill'. Nolan and Front Porch was packed, so we checked out the Back Bay. We weren't disappointed!

Perhaps the most important factor overlooked when assessing why a restaurant will put a great value deal out there is the impact it has on the staff. Generating traffic on an otherwise expected to be slow night will generate gratuity for the front of the house. This is very important to keep valued employees earning income.

It’s an example of ownership/management, recognizing the risk of loss in order to protect employees. Much better than government imposed.

I believe this to be 100% correct!

I remember speaking to Steve Buzota when he owned the Ellacoya Barn and Grill. He started the Monday $5.00 burger and fries deal at Ellacoya B&G. He stated it was break even at best. He did it to keep his valued crew working on what was usually a very slow day. It worked out great as many people went and the place was always very busy on Monday's. Most patrons also ordered drinks and other food items to help offset the loss of the burger deal.

While the cost has certainly gone up since then, I believe Monday is still burger special day at Ellacoya B&G. They serve a fantastic burger also!!

You are absolutely right, baygo, and just about the time ownership/management and employees strike a workable relationship in which everyone is happy along comes "the government" and messes things up. "Stay home, Big Government, little business doesn't need you".

We used to go to a pub that served "all you could eat" hot wings for 25 cents each. You couldn't eat them without drowning the hot out of your mouth with plenty on beers. I believe most places are $1 per wing now, Looney Bin on Thursday nights?

I can remember $.10 wings as a common promotion. You would think gone are the days, however not the case at all. The Goat in Portsmouth still features, $.10 wings on Weds.

Closer to home, the Back Bay has wings for $.69 on Wednesday.

Looney Bin’s are $1.00 on Thursday. Those who follow DRV the Spirit of Laconia on Facebook know that on Thursday I go around to various restaurants (that sell DRV) to pick up the tab for people wearing DRV gear, so I won’t be taking advantage of LB’s $1.00 wing special.
