That's quite a project to move such a vessel cross country. How was it accomplished?

I don't know how it was moved, but I bet it was quite a sight going down a highway.

Faye's Boat Yard had something to do with the sale.

Usually, when a new, large, unusual boat comes to the lake, we get some advance notice, pictures of the launch, ...something... The Gypsy just appeared. I guess Gypsies just do that.
Nevertheless, nice to have her as an addition to the Winnipesaukee fleet.

At 10:25 this morning, the covers were removed. Flags mounted and off she goes for a day on the Lake...
At 10:40, it looks like it'll pass Horse Island between Meredith Neck/ Cattle Landing and Bear Is.

Don't mean to sidetrack this thread. Maybe Gypsy should have a place of its own.

While beautiful it’s WAY to big for the Glendale docks and will cause damage. The docks are not built to handle boats of that size. I believe Glendale has a 30’ limit on boat size at the docks. That boat is way bigger than that at 48’!!

Do you know if this is an islander Steve?

I don't know...I do see boats larger than 30 feet frequently though...I wasn't aware of that restriction.

Disagree. I think the docks can handle larger boats from a structural point of view. When they were first built with pre-stressed concrete, (ca. 1960?) there was a lot of commercial activity in Glendale. The big pilings at the ends are certainly less convenient for smaller boats. Cars and trucks could drive out on all three docks. That was much easier when I had a car load of stuff to unload. The Bear and the Camp from Camp Lawrence and Camp Nokomis were regulars for supplies and campers on "change days". That continued when they went to one larger boat (The Bear) for many years. Islanders who use Glendale instead of a rented/owned slip someplace started lobbying for more restricted use and the BOS eased the commercial users out over time. As I recall the 30' limit started only for commercial boats.
Scroll back on this thread and you will see pix that Steve posted of a beautiful 35' boat that is a regular. More recently there was an attempt to extend 30' to all boats, and then the TM backed off a little to allow those with larger boats to pick up, drop off, mail, trash, guests, etc. In the picture of the Gypsy, it looks like she is backed in with her bow extended so she is not using more that about 25-30 feet of dock. Very polite and considerate.

Those docks are NOT the same as they were “back in the day”. They have been rebuilt numerous times and now simply consist of precast concrete slabs simply resting on (not bolted to) a wooden crib. The vertical wooden pilings are only embedded into the lake bottom and not even anchored to the sides of the crib. As a matter of fact you can grab any of those vertical pilings and easily move them 6 or 7 inches in any direction. The town of Gilford paid to have the docks straightened out three years ago and five years ago. One time was due to ice the other due to summer movement caused by large boats and it wasn’t cheap!

I don’t consider parking a 48’ boat which is 18’ over the town limit and also park it on a restricted dock “polite and considerate”. When rules are only for others and not for you, that is a perfect example of entitlement!

It is a beautiful boat though….

Dan

Gilford NH, Glendale Facility Regulation #15.4.3.1 Docking of Boats

says:

(c) ..... "No commercial barge or vessel over thirty (30) feet in length shall be allowed to utilize the Glendale docks on a year-round basis."

As the foremost authority ...... ...... on NH Maritime Law since New Hampshire was first invented, I hereby interpret this to mean ...... is perfectly okay for this beautiful 1948 Gypsy to tie up at the Glendale town docks whenever the heck it wants to! ...... hut-hut-hut ...... beautiful boats like this are just like beautiful women ...... they get to go and do whatever they want ..... whenever they want ..... and everyone is TOTALLY pleased that it be HERE! .....

Wow ...... what a great look'n set of OARS on this Gypsy boat! ..... hut-hut-hut! .....

Getting to be that time of year...commutes are now pre-sunrise, 46 degrees, and steam coming off the warm water in both Glendale and Alton Bays. I don't know about you , but for me this summer has flown by like none other.

Only when it drops down into the 20s and 30s do I use the heater...anything above that, all my " hot air " seems to warm the cabin up!

I agree on summer flying by. Maybe it is an age thing! When we were little summer vacation seemed to last forever (at least until the week before school started.). As we grew older it seemed to get shorter & shorter. But seeing it short is much better than not seeing it at all!!

This morning was the first time I actually felt chilly in quite a while. Like the crisp air, don't like the signal of summer being close to over.

Summer does seem short, I try to start it in May and end it in October to feel like I had a longer summer. So in my world summer is 5 months, fall is 2, winter 3, spring 2.

He was an older gentleman ( even older than me ), and when leaving the docks was having difficulty with the concept of the difference between forward and reverse. Finally got him back in open water, but the C-Nile almost ended up being a foot shorter!

Wonder what happened here...Give you one guess... No problem, us Gilford tax payers will fix it for the "entitled one"... I knew this was going to happen....

I have seen them parked in that particular spot a few times. The last time i saw them backing in it was all hands on deck and not going well...

If anyone is missing Steve's views from the C-Nile and his great sense of humor he will be back soon. He is presently terrorizing the vineyards in Italy in search of something comparable to his favorite boxed wine

You're very welcome GG... ended our week in Tuscany with a visit to Castelina in Chianti... tomorrow we head to the coast...a friend is house sitting, trying to keep Charlotte the dog and the cat herd under control.

Default Wine?

I want to hear about the wine Steve! They say first time visitors are supposed to drink wine until the leaning tower is straight!

Have fun and great pics!

Can you hitch a tow strap onto the bumper of the Renault and see if you can pull that tower to straighten it???

Looks like an amazing trip!

The wines are amazing...strict Italian laws govern which grapes can be used, what blends can be used, even if the grapevines can be irrigated. I'm sure the Franzia Bros. follow those same standards!!

This borders on being rude and inconsiderate of the two boats that collided off the tip of Bear Island, November, not so long ago. Suggest you not reply, just move on to something else. Thank you.

Sorry Descant… but what Steve and Tis were discussing is so far removed from what you brought up it’s incomprehensible…Really??

I love Steve’s post as well as Tis and there was never no ill will here whatsoever!

Thank you, Live, think, and i. I was a little shocked by that post also as Steve and I were just fooling around as we have been known to do a few times in the past. All in fun. It's too bad when you try to lighten up everyday life it sometimes doesn't work. For me the most enjoyment I get out of the internet is when you have a little fun, not when it is all serious and sadness.

Tis, your lightening up when worked just fine. One person’s misapprehension, which appears to have been innocent notwithstanding his expectation that the stated diktat would be slavishly obeyed, doesn’t govern or even affect the accurate perception of everyone else. You and Steve keep the playful volleys coming please.

I was wondering where that came from as well...I fall into that late season moron category as well. Boat usually is in the water until end of November, if not December.

One of the fall boating things I really enjoy is that everything sounds different. The way sound carries over the water, the way the engine sounds, are noticeably different from hot mid summer. I don't know what it is, maybe the dry air instead of humid, but I've noticed it since I was a kid.

If you're gonna live on an island, you can't be afraid of boats...

Keep it going guys! Wish I was still able to get out there, but the boats been winterized for a few weeks now!

I made the run up to the family place on Suncook at 5am today to pull the dock. My aunt said they had dropped the lake level, but when I got there it was higher than when I put it in during spring! The 55ish degree water felt warm compared to the 45 degree air at 7am....

Enjoy being on the water, just don't go in, its cold!!

Christmas in October?? Nope, just the pulled navigation lights sitting in front of the Marine Patrol building. Pretty though...https://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/634fd0f6...4715222.TS.mp4

I sure did... stays a little warmer out on the island so no boat windshield scraping was needed, but the car windows were iced up. Absence of fog made for a pleasant ride in.

Associated Boat Transport moved her, they transport 600 boats a year and have a lot of experience hauling antique wood yachts. They were very accommodating in part because they were familiar with the Gypsy and her history.

I have been friends with the Fay's for many years, but they did not have anything to do with this sale. I have just been bugging them for two years to make some room in their boat yard for me.

Had lunch at The Breeze last week, saw the C-Nile at the dock. Looked kind of lonely. A few people were retrieving boats but not much activity. Such a beautiful day, wish we had time to launch a boat and go for a ride.

And it's probably gonna get lonelier as time goes on!

I took a picture of the boat at the dock but for some reason posting pictures is escaping me right now. I know I did in the past but it seems to only allow links to images, no uploading.

I took the dog out a little while ago .. it's so quiet out here now you could hear a pin drop. More Islanders are leaving by the day, and it's very dark as well .

I'll see if one of my friends can make some passes by the island in a wake boat with AC/DC playing over the tower speakers.

The C-Nile probably has more speaker power than the wake boat, but if it's close I could fire up the outside house system and drown out that drive-by. Remember, there's no neighbors left to complain about my loud music!

Well post your property, then those pesky neighbors won't come over for a beer.

hey, I admit I did pee in the yard a few times, but I did it off camera, and only went where the dogs normally go...

Only because they don't have NO TRESPASSING signs though right? So it's ok.
