Default Propane/Gas Question

Can an appliance that runs off natural Gas here in mass go up north and operate off of Propane? Mt neighbor told me he didn't think so but he isn't positive.

It depends on whether or not the particular unit has changeable brass orifices. They are different for LP and NG. You should probably check with the manufacturer of the appliance for the answer as to whether it can be converted to LP.

I agree with BT. We had a gas grill that was ordered wrong and it had to be converted. My recollection was it was almost a hundred dollars just for the parts.

I had an NG clothes dryer converted to propane a few years ago. IIRC it was well under $100 to have that done.

Default NG vs Propane

I use propane on my range and I beleive that only the pressure regualtor was changed. The burners were not changed.

I just had a propane stove installed. Bought the stove new, $40 to install the conversion kit to propane. I was told all stoves are setup for natural. Cost $60 to hookup to gas supply.

dpg,

Any "Gas" appliance must be converted to the type of fuel being used. Natural to Propane, Propane to Natural. They normally come from the factory set up for Natual Gas. Thus the need for a "Convertion Kit". I think the main difference is the size of the orifice.

need a converstion kit, the burners are the same but the Propane lines, orifices, pressure valves, and regulators can all be different

Default Natural gas to Propane conversion

Best to check with the manufacturer to determineif conversion of a particular unit is recommended or even possible. I recently bought a Frigidaire gas stove at Lowes, the owner's manual clearly stated that my model CANNOT be converted to propane. It has to do with more than just the size of the orifices.

Not to belabor the thread, but "most" appliances can be converted with the key being if the mfg wants (or still) offers the kit. we have 5 different appliances (not including the gas grill) all converted and running nicely off propane. When we researched, we did check that the conversion kits were available (something pretty easy off the mfg website). Do some base research, and you should be able to tell pretty easily. Conversion kits were all well under $100.

good luck
