Default Winnie to Pennsylvania

Planning a reverse trip: Winnie to Pennsylvania (King of Prussia)

Next weekend plannig a trip to PA to see our son. Have to stop at Mass house location first. We usually I take the usual routes: I-93 > I-3 > I-495 > I-290 > I-90 (Mass Pike) > I-84 > I-91 > Rt15 (Merritt Pkway), to Whte Plains NY, I-276 over the Tappan Zee Bridge, > then I think I-95 NJ Turnpike towards I-276W toward PA Turnpike, to I-76 to Rt 202 and arrive at destination.

We will be traveling next Fri. morning 7/10. I avoid the GW Bridge and always go over the Tappan Zee Bridge. If there is an easier way I would like to know, especially any construction areas to avoid if possible.

Thanks,
Bigdog

My Mom lives near KoP and I've made that trip more times than I can count from north of Boston.

I go...

Mass Pike to 84 to 684 to Saw Mill Parkway to 287 over the Tappan Zee to Garden State Parkway to New Jersey Turnpike to Pennsylvania Turnpike.

I've been driving this route since 1987. Never had any issues.

gf2020.....

Did you ever take the Merritt Parkway (Rt 15) to White Plains instead of I-84 / i-684?

Been on I-684 it's a nice road, but a little longer....

Any major construction on I-84, especially through Danbury CT ?

Thanks,
Bigdog

Avoid the city, take 84 across bridge over Hudson, then 287 south towards NJ. That is suggested trucker route to avoid urban traffic/rush hours, etc.

Default Merritt Parkway

I travel from Alton Bay to northern NJ regularly thru the summer. I prefer the Merritt Parkway to 84/684. No trucks and less traffic. There is construction on 84 this year in the Danbury area. The only problem on the Merritt is they are doing construction after 7 pm and close 1 lane below Fairfield around exits 41-38. Travel during the day should be okay.

Going to PA, I would recommend taking the route you outlined in post #1 and after crossing the Tappan Zee take the Thruway north to the Garden State Parkway (approx. 6 miles). The Garden State Parkway takes you to the NJ Turnpike at Exit 129.

Yes, I have taken 84 to 91 to 15 to 287 before. Depending on traffic in the Hartford area, I would say it is the same amount of time to get to the Tappan Zee as 84 to 684 to Saw Mill Parkway to 287.

Now that one of our sons will be attending the University of New Haven, I suspect my wife and I will have numerous opportunities to take the Merritt or 95 to West Haven, CT.

Default Merritt

Drove down the Merritt on Monday. Came to a standstill a few times due to some type of mowing or clean up on the side of the road. This was also happening on the north bound side. Although I'm told the Merritt is shorter - I prefer to stay out on I84. Don't like the two lanes, winding road and no shoulders. I like having more road to navigate should something happen around me. I'll be taking the Thruway over Newburgh/Beacon bridge to 84 home. No more Merritt for me.
