Default Msc 2018-2019

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, lot of business travel this year!

November 26, 2018

Dear Moultonboro Snowmobile Club members,

With winter on our doorstep, we are well into our preparations for the 2018-2019 snowmobiling season. Thank you for your support of the club and our activities. Last year, we had a good season overall, with a very early start. Unfortunately, we had a warm-up and rain right in the middle of MA and NH school vacation weeks that ended our season prematurely. We have to prepare the same way each season- snow fencing, signs, equipment maintenance, etc regardless of the past seasons weather.

We have had some changes in the club organization. Eric Erving has stepped down as the vice president. Many thanks and kudos to Eric for his service and countless hours that he put into our trail system! He is still doing a lot of behind the scenes work when his merchant marine career allows. Bill Gassman, who was previously a director, has stepped into the VP role. Bill is our map and web guru and, he too, also spends hours on club business. Jason Heaton joined the board as a director. He has been appointed as our Trail Master and has jumped in with gusto. He is getting a lot of advice and knowledge from Eric and Rod MacDonald.

Cathy Erving, Treasurer; Lea Bane, Secretary; Jeff Clarenbach, Director; Jim Salerno, Director; Brian Hall, Director; and I comprise the rest of the MSC leadership team. Steve Janaitis has again been appointed as our trail administrator so he will remain on as a voting board member. I thank each officer and director for their service.

As many are aware, the state has drastically changed the way that registrations and club memberships are handled. In the past, we had a pretty good paper, merchant and MSC Online Membership (see moultobororsmc.org) based process in place. We felt that it allowed us to better connect with you. Please visit our website to get a better understanding of the new system. It is important to note that you cannot join our club at merchants such as DaSilva’s, Skelley’s and Heath’s Hardware, unless you use your smartphone. This has been creating a lot of confusion at those establishments. Unfortunately, it is out of their and our hands. You can still register by mail or use our old membership system and we’ll enter the information into the NHSA system for you - see our website for details. George and Cheryl Higgins have been performing most of the membership tasks and will continue to help as we transition toward the state system.

Once again, Steve Janaitis will be running our youth safety class on December 15 at the Moultonborough Public Library. See our website for details.

Words cannot express how much I appreciate those volunteers that are not in leadership roles with the club. I almost hate to mention them by name as, invariably, I forget to mention some important names, but feel that I need to recognize some people here:
• Rod MacDonald who does so much behind the scenes, but more importantly spearheads our construction projects.
• Bill Keating can often be found with Rod or doing some welding.
• Paul Nerney also welds and takes his UTV out for trail work.
• Pete Keenan maintains, and has been out mowing trails, with our Gator.
• Don Lemien grooms and stores our 2009 Tucker for the summer.
• Brian Davis grooms the corridor and Red Hill
I will acknowledge others as we move forward through the season, but to all- thank you!

We have most of our trails in shape for the season. Most signs are installed/ updated, and fencing of sensitive areas is complete. There are still some tasks remaining and we always need help in the spring removing the fencing and signs. Please consider coming out for at least one Saturday AM- We are rapidly burning out our small cadre of volunteers!
We are in a constant battle to keep the trails that we have throughout town. In many cases we are down to our last reroute option. We have also lost some of our trails. We do not have access to the Kona trail from corridor 15. We can no longer snowmobile from Moultonborough to Sandwich Notch, nor can you get from Sandwich to White Lake State Park. Please be aware that we are doing what we can to keep our trails open. We ask that our members do what they can to assist. If you know someone with a trail on their property, thank them. If you know someone who recently closed a trail, ask them to reconsider. If you see people riding off trail or harming landowner property, contact NH Fish and Game.

We do not have a social director this year. If you can assist, it would be appreciated! At this point, we will only have our Christmas Party and April Annual meeting. The Christmas Party will be held on December 15 at the Castle in the Clouds Carriage House. It will be catered by Hart’s Turkey farm. Tickets are available through our website. We will also hold some informal meet and greets at our club garage on Saturdays throughout the season. We will post online and on our FB page when we will be there with hot chocolate and a grill!

The new Trail Maps for the 2018-2019 season will be out in early December. Please let the sponsors with ads on the back of the map know that club members appreciate their support.

We have also placed a porta-potty at our garage that will be open and available to all throughout the winter.

We are looking forward to a great, snow filled 2018-2019 riding season here in Moultonborough!

Best regards,

John Harrington
President, MSC

I wonder if people realize how much time it takes for you all to keep these clubs going. You all are amazing!
