Is Market Basket coming?
Have heard rumors but seen no announcement about possibility of a Market Basket coming to Gilford? Does anyone have the lowdown?

Lots of speculation here:
http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ad.php?t=20239 Nothing happening yet at the site except for minor stuff on existing buildings. |

I've heard they intend to start this fall. New location and total facelift of the mall where the movie theatre is. Rumor has it they are also looking for the "right" location in Ossipee. Hannaford is crapping their pants.

There is no current plan to put in a Market Basket and even if Market Basket were to be interested there does not appear to be enough room on the property.
The owners are making cosmetic changes to the property and the theater is spending a very significant sum to upgrade and improve their portion of the facility. The existing building has been certified by an engineer as structurally sound so it will stay there with the cosmetic improvements. The owners are working with the state now regarding an entrance off of route 11. There are wetlands issues that need to be addressed. |

I asked the manager at Tilton MB if there are plans for expansion into Gilford. He responded with a quick "No" Just a rumor.

That property seems much to small to put in a MB... They would need to take over the whole thing I think.

The new new location in Rochester is close enough for all of those coming up via 16.

I agree, but down here is some small towns in MA we have scaled back MB stores. Less selection but plenty of the popular items at the same price

Most (but maybe not all) of the newer MB's are located very close to major highways to make restocking quick and efficient. I would doubt that Gilford will make the cut because it is a long way off the major roads. We had even hear rumors of Meredith a while back, but not enough year long shopping traffic. As I said, not all fit the major road profile, but it is in their best interest. All three recent Nh stores...Tilton, Hooksett, and Plymouth all reflect that strategy. Just my two cents worth...even though we would love something more local to avoid the weekly trips to Tilton....which we do religiously !!
