Belle will be missed
Our beloved Belle, a sweet Bernese Mountain Dog that many around the lake got to know the last few summers we have been up here. She did not like the boat much, but she loved walks across the long island bridge, all around downtown Meredith, in many of the shops in Wolfboro and North Conway. She lived a great life and our lives were better having had her to share it with us. Those of you docking your boats at QYC or nearby probably saw her lying in the grass as you walked by to go to Jo Jo's or crossed over the lawn to go to Trexler's. She loved all people and most every dog she met.
RIP Belle 4/1/2003 - 2/25/2012 |

So, so sorry for your loss!! I hate reading or hearing that. I always have tears when somebody loses their pets, even if I don't know them (the pets). They are our kids!

We shouldn't dwell on the loss but on how much they made our lives fuller when they were with us.

What a beautiful dog! I am sure she will be greatly missed. My last cat lived to age 21 and my current cat is age 15. I am always so sad when my pets are no longer with me. May Belle rest in peace.

BernerGuy
Please post more pictures of Belle. I see that she didn't have a picture in "Dogs on Winnipesaukee". I know you said that she wasn't much for the water, but we all would be very happy to have her in the portfolio.

Sorry For Your Loss
There is a story told by the American Indians that the Great Spirit decided to divide the worlds of animal and man so he gathered all the living beings on a great plain and drew a line in the dirt.
On one side of the line stood man --- on the other side stood all of the animals. And that line began to open up into a great crevasse - and at the last moment before it became unreachable, dog leapt over and stood by man. Author Unknown Hope this helps.

Great pic, she was a cutie. We love berners. A few friends in York have berners and leonbergers and both are great breeds. One of them has a Leo, two berners and a berner/Leo mix. Over 700lbs worth of dogs!
In the last year we lost one of our English bulldogs (princess) and our chessie (jake), both who I believe we're pictured in the dogs thread. Both losses were terrible so I am very sympathetic. Bernie, our new leonberger has filled the gap since for us, and boy what a handful he has been since we picked him up in november. If you ever need a large breed fix, look us up. |

Thank you all
Thank you all for your kind words. Anyone that ever met her knows what a special girl she was. I will find one of her on the water, as we are looking through lots of old pictures, and post it to the other thread.

JKJ got me thinking.
A Kato Legend
Nagaicho, the creator, set out to create the world, and he took along a dog. He placed four big pillars at the corners of the earth to hold up the sky. He created man from the dirt, and then he created woman. The sun became hot, the moon was cold, and trees grew everywhere. Waves danced on the surface of the ocean and all the creatures of the seas swam in it and were happy. Then Nagaicho saw that the creatures of the earth needed water. He dragged his feet deep into the Earth and created rivers. He poked his fingers into the Earth and created flowing springs. And the elk and the deer came to drink at the rivers and springs. "Drink", Nagaicho said to the dog. And the dog drank from the sweet water, and Nagaicho himself lay down and drank. "It is good. They will all drink it," said Nagaicho. Then Nagaicho piled rocks around the edge of the water and made lakes and ponds. "Drink the good water" he said to the dog. "Drink, my dog." And the dog drank, and Nagaicho lay down and plunged his face in the water and drank. "It is good," he said. "Bears and people will drink here," he said. The Nagaicho put salamanders and turtles and little eels in the creeks. He put grizzlies and deer in the mountains and panthers and jack rabbits. So Nagaicho walked along, creating the creatures. "Walk behind me, my dog," said Nagaicho. "Let us look at all that is made." The trees were tall; the streams were full of fish. The little valleys had grown wide and full of flowering brush. "Walk fast, my dog," he said. "The land is good." Acorns and chestnuts hung on the trees. Berries crowded the bushes. There were many birds and snakes. The grass had grown. Grasshoppers were leaping about. There was clover. "We made it good, my dog," said Nagaicho. And so they started back, Nagaicho and his dog. The mountains were high; the land was flat; the creeks were full of trout. The good water raced over the rocks. They walked along. "We are nearly home, my dog," said Nagaicho. "I will drink water. You too drink," he said to the dog. The face of the earth was covered with growing things. The creatures were multiplying upon it. And Nagaicho went back into the North with his dog. |

Beautiful Belle
BernerGuy, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Belle. It is such a shame that our beloved pets cannot spend more time with us here on earth. I hope your memories will comfort you and your family in the times ahead. My thoughts are with you.
Sincerely, Celia |

So sorry to hear of this. I have seen your dog a few times at Quayside YC.
Great looking dog and one of my favorite breeds. Hopefully after some time passes you will find that hole in your heart needs filling by another great dog. |

Loss of a Beloved Pet
BernerGuy, I literally feel your pain. You will have lots of ups and downs this season and will occasionally get blindsided with overwhelming emotions. I recently had a meltdown myself when I did a thorough vacuuming at the camp, which resulted in a big blonde hair ball in the bin.
Try to remember the good times. Reminisce and laugh over Belle's antics. Unfortunately, our beloved pets do not have the longevity that we wish for. Just like our human loved ones, we must treasure each and every minute we do get. In time I hope you will bring another canine friend into your family. While this new addition will never, ever take the place of Belle, this addition will help lighten your heart and give you new focus, which will greatly ease your pain. Each day I give thanks to Paul, and my friend WinnDixie for insisting that I overlap dogs. Bailey enriched Mac's final year and a half and she has been instrumental in my healing. Consider overlapping in the future. I highly reccommend it. Thinking of you and your family, sending comforting thoughts. You are not alone in your grief. Sincerely, Celia |

Beautiful dog now I'm depressed for the day! That's why I HATE opening the Winni Pets section of this website and very rarely do.

We will never be able to replace our little Belle, but here is a pic of our soon to be newest family member. She is as yet unnamed and is only 5 days old in this picture.

New Puppy
Although we never replace our Belle, we will be getting a new puppy in two weeks. Her name is as yet undecided, and she is a precious white-faced baby. We got the chance to visit with her last weekend and cannot wait to bring her to the lake. Here she is with her Grandpa
