Default Maine: Needhams

Does anyone remember the dark chocolate, coconut & potato candy called Needhams? Mostly made in Maine.

I used to be able to get a box full of them at Hannaford's for a few bucks back in the day...these days, they are being sold as a gourmet item. Big bucks.

One of the more underrated treats out there that a lot of people don't know about. I'm going to go against my cheap-skate inclinations and pay up for a few of them.

You know tis, when I used to purchase them in the old days they were sold in a clunky white & green box with about 12-15 Needhams in them for something like $3.99.

These days, it's about $20 to order that amount from some gourmet shop!

Besides...you can't order them in the warm weather since they would most likely melt.

Simple pleasures that are not so simple any longer...

Anyone local sell them? Candy store at Meredith Falls, Chutters? I looked them up, and it looks like a bunch of people make them. Maybe it's time for a Needhams tour and review?!

Looking around the internet I see several companies are leaving out the potato in the recipe for Needhams...which is the whole point of the candy.

Buyer beware.

Don’t remember exactly how much but it was at the register and I needed it to make the minimum to use credit so probably around 2.50.
