Default Spaulding Turnpike to be Widened Soon

For those who come up to the lake via Rt. 95 to Rt. 16 (Spaulding Turnpike) to Rt. 11, Here's some good news...

Quote:
One More Step toward Widening the Turnpike

The first phase of widening the Spaulding Turnpike will likely be under way soon.

The bids for Exits 11 and 12 are in and two of the them are almost 15 percent below what had been anticipated.

The low bidder was SUR Construction of Rochester at $14.5 million. Second was Severino Trucking at $15 million. The Department of Transportation had expected the work to cost $17 million.

The project expected to get under way soon includes adding travel lanes, erecting a median, replacing or repairing bridges and reconfiguring turnpike on and off ramps.

The eventual widening will extend from Exit 11 to Exit 16 and will result in smoother flow to and from the exits in between as well. Exit 15 connects the turnpike to the increasingly traveled Route 11, feeding traffic north and into the Lakes Region. Exit 16 provides a connection with Routes 125 north of Rochester and Route 202 where the traffic is into and out of east Rochester and as a highway into and out of Maine.

Any word on when the Little Bay Bridge will be widened, so that folks can get to exit 11?
