Default Alton to Wolfeboro by snowmobile

Hi. I am new to snowmobiling in the lakes region.

** I understand the answer to this question depends on the ice conditions and that it is up to the individuals to verify the safety of the ice before venturing onto the ice **

Does anyone have any experience going from Alton Bay to/from Wolfeboro by snowmobile on the lake? If so, do most typical years for ice/snow make this possible? I would love to make the trip during the Alton winter fest if possible.

Most every year is passable however the ice conditions out in the middle by ship/moose island vary greatly and typically there is one or two pressure ridges.
I have personally done this trip several times a year but don’t venture across until it has been cold for a long stretch and see other traffic crossing that area as well. I’ve ice fished that section and some years there can be 28” of ice.
Know before you go!
There are trails from the golf course that connect to trails in Alton to avoid the lake.

I have been coming to the lake in the summer for 65 years and occasionally during the winter, and have always wanted to make that trip. However, I do not have a snowmobile and if I did I would only make that trip with someone with experience. Any suggestions on where to rent a snowmobile and find someone to join me on the trip?
