Be careful of what you ask for
On the western entrance to the Braun Bay sandbar there is a rock. Generations of local kids (myself included) have called it "Picnic Rock". We would paddle, or motor to the rock and tie up for a stay at our special place and maybe a Fluffernutter. for lunch.
This week, I assume in response to complaints about rafting in Braun Bay, the State has added more markers, etc. in the Braun Bay sandbar. There are now nine floating markers and three signs giving restrictions in the area. There is now a 8" by 4" sign of a telephone pole stuck on picnic rock. This is more signage than in the Weirs channel. A pristine area of the Lake has now been turned into a Wall Mart parking lot. I am sure that the State gave serious thought to this decision. Too bad. For a situation that happens for a few hours a day for maybe 20 days a year we locals have to live with scar on the Lake. Misty Blue |

When “anything” becomes abused you can bet that eventually, steps will be taken to put a halt to it...it’s the nature of today’s world where people that feel “entitled” to use a “resource” until it is no longer usable.

Picnic Rock
This is so true Misty Blue, I know the rock well ( four generations)and it is sad that these things happen. Unfortunately the lake has changed with it's popularity and those days are long gone.

When people choose to break the law, there is usually an effort made to "educate" them as to the existence of the law and where it applies. If people start to behave better, the signage and patrols will be reduced.
