Default Memorial Day Weekend

Best wishes to all for a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend, from Terry.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
This Memorial Day let us all remember this sentiment from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address:

"...The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Thank you for posting this.

All should pause a minute and reflect on the sacrifices of those who have served and are no longer with us.

Those who have religion might say a prayer for all of our deceased military veterans.

All gave some and some gave all.

And maybe a nod or call to any of our Gold Star mothers.

Default One other factoid about Taps

Try to identify any other song that would have so much meaning to so many people, and only have 4 notes.

It is a simplistic tune with so many complex emotions.

Default Memorial Day....A day to remember.

Let's not forget what today is really all about. Remember those that served and gave the ultimate sacrifice. Let us remember loved ones that did not return, and remember that they gave so that we might be and remain free. The only thing I ask of them still, is that they remain on watch over us, as we need their guidance, and protection even more with what is going on in the world today. Thank you, and we salute you.
