FYI: New Bird Gizmo
Everybody can identify a crow, blue jay, or loon, but this might be the ticket to find out what that "little brown job" is in the hedge.
Just aim Song Sleuth in the direction of a birdsong, and this device will electronically identify what's chirping up there -- out of sight in the treetops. It's a pretty serious gadget for a serious birder, but this is the time of year to carry it on walks in the woods. The price is pretty hefty, but if you haven't gotten anything for Mother's Day.... www.wildlifeacoustics.com Last edited by ApS; 12-21-2005 at 10:03 AM. |

Neat Gizmo!
That is a neat gizmo... but for that kind of money I'm more inclined to stick with the Mark I, Mod. 0 eyeballs and ears and my trusty field guide for birds...

For almost $500, I'm afraid it will end up being Goldie Finch and the Chickadees, doing a concert for Robin, the Cardinal, and the Finches. Oh, and the late arriving Canadiens, the Grosbeaks, with their own vocal group, the Hummers!
(I can readily identify the clucking and gobbling of a turkey without the expensive help)

Ya APR,pretty cool but "serious birders" wouldn't need that device cuz they would already be able to identify those birds I would think. SS
