Default Big Lake Half Marathon

Thank you to all the great folks in Alton/Alton Bay who shared your lovely space with us today!

The organizers do a great job, and the locals' enthusiasm is much appreciated!

It's so good to call this place "home!"

Default One Problem...

One Problem: The town does nothing to advertise this race. Too bad, it could be a boon to the local merchants, especially in the bay.

I saw a sign up town by school street that said "Race Start" and I said to my self, what race?

Glad you had a good time, and glad the organizers did a good job.

It could be even better if the Town supported it, advertised it, and promoted it.

I agree that more advertising would be good. I would have loved to have run, but didn't learn about it until I drove around the lake yesterday and saw it

Default Runners World

Big lake and other half/full marathons in and around the lakes region area are listed in runners world. http://www.runnersworld.com/

It takes a lot of effort from the locals to the municipals to put on a race. Lakes Region is a great host! I thank you for that.

Many times the runners face irate motorists on a hurry to nowhere. Telling the runners to quit blocking the roads, go elsewhere, pick a better time etc. etc. This is totally uncalled for and the races never block roads or impede traffic! Slow down and enjoy the slow pace the region has to offer!

We ran yesterday! Great race and very well supported. Thank you to the local clubs and all the other folks who volunteered yesterday! We live in Alton so having this race in our backyard is a real treat. Shibley's hosted a great post-race gathering!! We met several people who came up for the weekend and we were able to provide local places to eat, shop, stay, etc.

I had no idea this race was yesterday.

I couldn't run it this year since I am running Ragnar Hull to Provincetown on Friday but more advertising in the future, please!

Is there beer at the finish? The Smuttynose has a great post-race party. :-)

Speaking to the point of irate motorists, I often encounter bicyclists doing a marathon/race. Most of the time I know in advance and can plan ahead. Knowing in advance that their is an event happening that could possibly impede my plans allows me time to either avoid the area all together or join in the fun.

Had this planned event been known to the motoring public in advance, and even a small number of motorist avoided the area, it would make it more pleasant for all involved. I personally enjoy watching these races.

Yes, two Smuttynose beer tickets per runner, plus pizza, ice cream, chips, bananas, etc. They served the beer in Shibleys, and the staff, as always, were great!

We just moved here about a year ago, but from I understand, this race is usually on the first or second Saturday in May.
