Default Oil Filter ?

I want to change my boat engine oil (10Wx40), and install a new oil filter,
my problem is I don't know what type oil filter is on engine ?
The engine is a 2001 MerCruiser 4.3L V6.

What type filter should be used ? I don't want to remove current filter, until I'm ready to perform the oil change.

Can I use a automotive type filter, or does it require a marine spec. unit ?

Thanks !

There are many different 4.3L engines and oil filters. Even remote vs on the block makes a difference.

Suggest you find your engine here, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/v-6-sterndrive-engines and dig down to the block or remote oil filter schematics to find your correct part number.

You can cross reference to other filters once you know the right part number, but the OEM version is only in the $9 range.

If the filter is in the back on the block it takes 883702K. If it's up front on a remote it takes 866340K01. Either takes the 802893T fuel filter.
