Default Broken Spoke

Broken Spoke has been closed since before bike week, anyone know what's happening?

Default Broken Spoke Website

Here's a link to the Broken Spoke website. FYI, when I googled the Laconia site, got "page not found".

https://brokenspoke.com/

The Laconia building formerly known as the Broken Spoke Saloon is under new ownership. That has already happened.

It will be opening soon with a new name and some improvements. Keno is being added and the event schedule is currently being updated.

It should be a great stop and only improve on a winning formula. It will be a nice local restaurant/bar operated by a nice local family.

Looking forward to it. Nice a close for me, I could walk home if I over indulge.

No, there is a new name. The previous owners would not permit that. I should have put that in my post.

I know the new name but I am not sure if it is definite. When I get that info I will post it. (Starts with: High Octane)

It's a great location with plenty of open space. They need to increase outdoor activities like the breweries do, maybe a beer garden with games.

Too big of a location for the area and supporting year round customer base in my opinion. Its a big nut just to turn the lights on. Except for bike week, can’t see it. Locals have their small watering holes they enjoy. If they move away from the biker bar and make it more family friendly, maybe

WinnisquamZ,

Prior to Covid, the Spoke had a banging business year 'round Thursday thru Sunday! They pretty much owned Thursday night karaoke! Once this crap calms down, I am sure it will return to form!

Understand, did that include the off season? Just thinking of what Tower Hill has planned for his properties at the Weirs and toss in the new Dive, is the customer base there?

It is not like the business is a surprise and a new person is going in hoping for the best. The same family that has operated it 51 weeks a year for the past several years purchased it and will now operate it 52 weeks a year.

They already know what the recent numbers are and also have several good ideas to grow the business.

They would not have purchased it without doing the math first.

Why such a angry tone? Many are unaware of their customer base. Visited once. Frozen burger and paper plates. Not my thing. Can’t forget the pool table fight that broke out. It’s always good when a local family business succeeds. Wish them the best.

The former Broken Spoke, now the High Octane Saloon, is finally ready to open.

All the licenses and permits are in hand, all the inspections have happened.

It looks like New Years Eve day to open and they will remain open on New Years Eve.

Default Broken Spoke

Let's hope owners and patrons follow COVID protocol, otherwise, this could be a "spreader event".

Can’t we just wish a new local business good luck in these difficult times without throwing a damper on it before they even open.

I've always wanted to stop in, but it's never the right time and they never looked open. Good luck to the new owners—it looks like it has great potential.

I agree but I think it’s because the parking and main entrance is the back not on Route 3.

It would be cool if they'd throw a flag out when open—I love when places make it easy to know they're open.

I have known Andy for some time, both professionally and personally. He has invested a lot of time and money into properties and businesses around the area. As TBB noted, the Turner's have run this business 51/52 weeks for several years- they know what the business is. This is a win for the area!

There is no business relationship with HD or any Harley dealership. However, the Turners have Harley Davidson motorcycles and ride them often.

They are a nice, hard working family and I wish them well.

Everything is still on schedule for a New Years Eve Day opening.

Default Great News!

I wish them well and any open business in the Weirs area is a plus for the whole area. It brings people here who might not otherwise be in the neighborhood. Best of luck and we'll come visit after the rush of the re-opening dies down.

Default It appears big plans are in the works...

This was in todays LDS...

The establishment, formerly known as the Broken Spoke, is seeking permission to build a 2,300-square-foot to its building at the corner of Route 3 and Watson Road, as well as a 5,000-square-foot pavilion, and install a 3,200-square-foot patio.

Stopped in on Saturday evening. Figured with the rain, and it was the night before Easter, it would be slow and we'd just stop in for watering and pub grub.

Wrong. It was packed, the band was awesome and we ended up staying until they stopped playing.

The addition to the building will start after Bike Week. It will extend to the rear of the building toward the parking lot where the large ramp is now.

The pavilion will have a stage and the plan is to have entertainment there.

Default Tamarack...

I was thinking about what influence Broken Spoke may be having on the Tamarack Drive-In, right across the street. So I tried pulling up their web site and it was gone. Anyone know anything about the 'ole Tamarack? It's had it's ups-and-downs for decades, if not centuries.

It draws a different crowd.
It was one of the few places that I would go on that side of Laconia.
But generally I stick to Laconia's South End.

They are converting the building to condos at the Boot Hill. I think they got approval for 4-5 units.

Hopefully whomever buys those understands they bought across the street from a Roadhouse and don't try to change it all.

Not sure what is going on at Sun Valley... other than it is under agreement.

Thanks Woodsy. Don’t think it will affect High Octane especially since they have approval and are starting an expansion after bike week.

Thats my point... the condos will be sold after all the Bike Week shenanigans. The developer is not going to care about the noise etc. But if the buyers do not do their due diligence, I foresee a whole pile of complaints & headaches for both the Octane and the condo owners.

Understood. Not much they can do really except complain.

Any idea what the old Faro is going to be? Been working there since last fall and still no sign.

Disagree Woodsy, the buyers of these units across from the High Octane will know what they have. Money makers three weeks a year. Bike week, pond hockey, and Bikefeast in October. Renting those three weeks alone will pay their taxes and most yearly fees. Other weeks it’s no different then living next to a sandbar or long holiday weekend on the lake

You wouldn't buy it just to rent it out three weeks a year. As an investment it wouldn't make much sense. But (to me) as a residence it wouldn't make any sense at all. There wouldn't be a lot of peace and quiet.

The High Octane saloon (Or the Spoke before it) has been there a long time and has every right to run a successful business. Building condos across the street makes about as much sense as building them next to an airport runway. But people do it...........And then complain about the noise!

Default Residents vs Retail

From NH to FL, developers are having good success with residential development, whether apartments or condos. In mixed use development, the success of retail/commercial is minimal and developers are going back to the city and asking to reduce the retail/commercial component.

Three current examples locally are the 10 condo units above the colonial theater downtown, 3 condos above lake port opera house and also, the 20 units (10 condo and 10 market rate apartments) going in across from the opera house. A issue develops when the business venue wants to change the rules. One current example is “tower hill”. He would like to keep serving drinks until 2am. Last year he asked to play live music until midnight. Unsure we are with either request, but the neighborhoods in the Weirs are not happy

Everett will own most of that Lakeport property... so no business will do what he doesn't like.
