Fishers Are Back...
Definitely a Fishercat. (Fisher). Neighbors have had two daytime sightings this weekend on Wolfeboro Neck. One other "sighting" was a Fisher "screech" which I personally heard. (Also day time). Among its varied large inhabitants, one Fisher can be seen close-up at the Squam Lake Nature Center.
Their primary prey is the porcupine, which has made a resurgent population here after an absence of decades. One's "outside cat" is another prey animal. Even medium-sized dogs can be badly harmed, as reported recently in Connecticut. "My" Fisher is probably living in an above-ground burrow on my lot line, shared with those same neighbors. |

Mean little things . . .
A neighbor up the hill on Varney Point saw one take his cat this spring while he was looking out the window. Nothing I'd like to ever see. Cat was never to be seen again.
