Default First Snow

Too dark to take picture but, on the way to work this morning it was snowing lightly, with a coating on the grassy surfaces.. This is in Moultonborough, seemed to stop around mirror lake with nothing on the ground. Let the ski season begin!!

Default .... Don Kent here .... 8-am, Oct 18, 2018

Today's 8-am Don Kent weather report shows we got an early wintry blast that's very similar to the last cold winter past.

We have received reports of icy, slippery roads, and white dusted hills and valleys, up on the higher elevations including Sandwich, Waterville Valley and Bethlehem, NH. The temperature is hovering at 28-degrees and winds are blowing from 20-40mph.

There was a back door cold front that crawled in, coming down from Canada and New York State, that pushed our earlier warmer air westward, replacing it with this cold dry air. The winds should be calming down as the morning progresses, and this afternoon should be sunny, calm and beautiful. A great afternoon to do some outdoor gardening, or go boating, while you can still get out on the water.

And, that's today's 8-am report for Thursday morning, October 18, 2018.

Hot off the teletype .... Washington reports that President Eisenhower plans to take the afternoon off, and go play 18-holes of golf, while soaking up that warm afternoon sun down in Washington DC.

Default Also in Alton

Around 8am, a brief snow shower passed through with snowflakes and snow grains.

A little tinge of white on the roof and deck railing. Not ready for this. 32 and it feels like 27. No stacking wood this morning.

Default Dusting

Here's a pic from about 7AM. Didn't last long. In the past, snow in October has been followed by a poor snow year. Maybe this year will be different.

It felt like it was going to snow yesterday afternoon at around 5:30. No snow, but a cool double rainbow appeared over by the west end of Rattlesnake. We did get some flurries this morning.

I must be behind times as I didn't realize Don Kent was still around let alone doing weather casts. If so good for him.

Don Kent passed away in 2010. I think FLL was calling himself "Don Kent".

Sometime, back about 2006, Don Kent showed up in the large conference room in the Belknap County Complex in Laconia towards the tail end of a Winnipesaukee speed limits public dialogue, and after the meeting he got engaged in a stand up conversation with a handful of onlookers.

I can recall him saying that he was able to pay all his Sanbornton property taxes with the money he made from giving public talks about the weather, which he thought was pretty good for someone at his age of 88.

He goes ...... you know I was able to pay all my Sanbornton property taxes last year with these group talks I give on the weather ...... how's that for just talk'n about the weather!

Apparently, he had a weather talk on his schedule at about the same time as this public conference hearing.
