Default ....looking for the winter?

Looking for the winter on Monday, April 11? Well.....come to Waterville Valley .... where the ski area has been closed for about 8-days now .... but the weather just snowed about 1-2" of the heavy, wet, white stuff ..... enuf to cover everything and make it all look like winter ..... plus the 7-acre Corcoran's Pond is still about 75% froze over with decent look'n ice ....could be the last opportunity for ice fishing!

Cross country skiing is doable too on the very smooth Livermore Rd which is a WMNF multi-use trail and all you need is a WMNF parking sticker at $20/yr, or $3/day ..... such a deal!

Yikes, my thermometer told me it was 42.5 degrees this morning at 6-am, today Sunday July 30, here in Waterville Valley......that sure seems chilly for July 30 ...... I had to look twice to believe it.

I believe it. I rode my bicycle in the Mt Washington century yesterday and it was 52 degrees at 7, it was cold, but it warmed up nicely by 9 or 10.

Yesterday, Saturday, Nov 18, 2017, the Waterville Valley 9-hole golf course, elevation-about 1800', was recently covered with about one inch of solid, wet, heavy snow, making it all look very white and very wintry.

And today, Sunday, Nov 19, all the snow is all gone, all melted away with today's heavy rain and temps in the 40's, making yesterday's golf course wintry look be looking very grassy green today. So, it was goodbye winter ..... and hello green golf landscape.

Winter, winter, winter, winter ...... where's it at?

From about 1987 to 2014, the golf course typically had a white snow cover on the ground starting on November 8.

"white snow"

White snow is typical early in the season....the other colors happen later.

.....where's the winter? ..... duh, winter is here, ayuh! ..... is -14 in Waterville Valley right now.....is cold .....and yesterday, Saturday, Jan 6, the www.waterville.com/cams/ main chairlift in the background was shut down all day due to wind and cold ..... will the main lift be running today? Yes, it is running today with many skiers/riders on board the lift ....... conditions: the deep freeze is lessening, calm wind, and bright sunshine ... price: does anyone actually pay the full weekend price of $81? ...... maybe the Boston BMW crowd?

...this two week long cold snap had to be bad for business for the ski area ..... where it can be too cold, too windy, or too rainy ..... the ski biz is a very tough business as a stand alone seasonal ski area with no real estate condo home sales attached....maybe they could build a huge indoor water park, or a casino, or both in Parking Lot #9 instead of expanding onto Green's Peak?

Under the new Trump Doctrine, the U S Forest Service that is home to the ski area could be very happy to be home to a big casino ..... hey there buddy ..... come to the White Mountain National Forest and win big ...... win big at the Trump-Waterville Valley Woods ...... 'Donald loves New Hampshire' ...... ha-ha-ha-ha ......
