Default Town Docks in Meredith

OK....The C-Man company has made $$$$$ through the years. How about cleaning up The Town Docks. What they consider "shabby beach chic" is only a MESS. The umbrellas are totally gross and broken-down. And, the rope around the broken fence has last years crap still stuck in it!
The only appealing thing at the place are the great staff. (not any of the food)

Have you mentioned any of this to management? They'd probably welcome your input/suggestions.

The manager use to own the Tamarack. Why don't you speak with her? I tend to stop at Town Docks while out in my boat on a beautiful day. I am looking on the lake and enjoying the friends I am having lunch with. I have never even noticed that it was messy or shabby.

We were there last Thursday and I happened to take these pictures. For a beach bar it was very clean and the umbrellas seemed to be in good shape. Certainly not a "MESS". We also enjoyed the food. Were you at the same place pictured below?

Default Not dirty to us either...

...and we are hoping for good weather for a week from tomorrow, because we are going out with friends on our new boat, and plan on a trip to Meredith for lunch at the Town Docks.

Sorry you feel the place is mess. We enjoy it, and always look forward to our visits over there.

I don't think they ever vacuum or even sweep...there always seems to be sand below the picnic tables.

Gotta say...I've been 3 times this summer, all by boat, and really never had anything close to a complaint.
Always enjoyed the food/ cocktails, service, and the atmosphere. Is it extremely clean? Well, IT'S A BEACH BAR. I fully expect sand to be everywhere, and with so many umbrellas...well those things are always less than perfect.
As for none of the food being appealing??? Don't think you're going to gain any momentum with that...
It's not 5 star dining, but it's always very good.

I am with SA. I like the Town Docks. It is what it is- decent food, good drinks, great view, all a little over-priced. The pricing I understand due to the seasonal nature of the place.

I love the Dox. Kids play in that beat up old boat in the "picnic" area, and we can sit right over the fence in the tableside service area. Always fun, good food, good service.

I should learn to read. I did get KTO's humorous post,
but I thought that SA was referring to the original poster's comment as being in jest.

Hand over the dunce cap.

Default Town Dock

On Sunday I took my family to the Town Dock for lunch. I know that its not the best food around the lake but I have to say that on that day we had the worst meal all summer. I can go on to give the details but its not worth it. I didnt complain to the manager but I now wish I had. Eight of us had crummy meals and after the $150 bill I think the Management should know. I will give it another chance next year because it is a great spot and a good boating destination. Our waitress was very polite but they need top do better with the quality of food.

$150 for eight people does not get you a gourmet meal. The Town Docks are what they are. Okay food at a good price. Sometimes better than okay, but most times just okay or a bit less than that. My last meal there sucked too, but after seeing what I paid for it I knew why. It remains a good boating destination as you said, just not a place to bring guests. Take them over to Wolfboro or down to Alton. Better choices in those directions, but expect to pay more. I'll keep going back to Town Docks, but I'm addicted to the Frappes.

Default Sorry you didn't enjoy your meal

We were there on this past Fri. We took friends over to Meredith by boat. They had been to Town Docks before by car, but never by boat. We had an appetizer, lunch and a few drinks and a lot of good conversation. As others have said, food was good, not great, but we weren't expecting Lagos or Church Landing. It was more about sitting in the outdoors at a beach bar, with nice music that wasn't so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you, good service, and good food. Our friends picked up the tab, and I know it was over $100 with tip.

Sorry that your experience wasn't as good, Bobio. Have a good fall and winter.

It is a great place for kids; they can look at all the different boats and people "attempting" to dock. It's a lot of fun and good food.... very relaxed atmosphere.

Afterwards, go out to the front and get ice cream; you can then walk along the docks and park area to "burn it off"..... our kids are late teens and college bound now; we've been doing it since they were little and the Town Docks opened in 1999 or so.

Don't forget the nice sculpture walk--beautiful around sunset. The food is good, not great, but the atmosphere is wonderful!

Of course the food isn't "great", you don't pay GREAT prices for it! For what you do pay, food is pretty damn good. Have you tried the tuna tacos? they are GREAT! and for $10? Can't make them for that $.

Default Frog Rock

I agree the food and drinks are OK. Good food and drinks at a good value is available up the hill at Frog Rocks, across from Hermit's Woods. Check it out!

Just left Town Docks--food's never been great, but tonight it was especially bad: lemonade and iced tea were watered down, fries and chicken fingers were overdone, macaroni and cheese tasted burnt, and seafood was rubbery. Gotta say that even the splendid view couldn't save them tonight.

PS People next to us were also disappointed.

I took my kids there a couple of weeks ago and found the table cloths filthy. Food was ok. Our waitress was pleasant but she disappeared for long stretches. I won't be rushing back. I tried to go to the hotel but it was a Sunday and they were serving brunch and the kids didn't want that type of food. Next time I will over rule them.

Only been there once a couple weeks ago.
Sat up on the deck overlooking the docks...ordered beers (can't go wrong) and a haddock sandwich which was very good and cooked perfectly.
Wife had the fish tacos and they were good as well. Loved the chips!
Waitress was attentive "enough" to satisfy but we were in no hurry anyway and enjoyed the views. Will go back.

We love Town Docks. Ice cream and drinks are excellent and the food is good. When going you have to remember what it is though, it is a seasonal restaurant and when the weather is good it is absolutely packed so service can be slow at times but waiting a little for your food there isn't a bad thing. Enjoy the view and your drink, kick back and relax. It's not the place to go for a quick bite.

TD has arguably the best location on the lake, but the food is absolutely mediocre.

That was my experience last summer. Great outdoor location Mike being in Caribbean but all four of us ordered different meals and everyone thought it was mediocre.

Well I agree that the Town Dock has a great location on the water front... I don't see it as special, or as a worth while place to spend my money.

I was there just a few weeks ago and for 4 hot dogs and some chips the bill was 20$, I was then at the weirs and found the prices to be lower, still high in my opinion but lower....

Now maybe prices on other items aren't that bad, but when hotdogs and chips cost 20$, one thing comes to mind Tourist Trap.....And well that is what Meredith has become...

While the C-man has certainly done a good job developing the rest area's and places like Meredith... the charm is lost, and the greed is taking over...... I used to go to the Town Docks when it first opened and 2 Dogs and chips was like 5 or 6 bucks...and that was with a soda... the price has doubled and no soda.... But my favorite is the rest areas by a snickers bar at their convience store 1.25$ go to the vending machine in the hallway 1.00$.... People how allowed the C-man get into a position, such that NH is dependent upon them in certain area's Meredith being one of them... And now the greed is starting to come out...

Was there once last year and there was a skunk running around under peoples tables. Surprisingly no one seemed to even be bothered by it, we picked up our stuff and left! Still have never seen such a thing before.

If your favorite meal is $1 from a vending machine, perhaps you are not the target clientele even a relaxed place like Town Docks is targeting...

If you are talking about the rest area on I-93 in Hooksett, then I think you might be comparing 2 different things. The convenience store is run by Circle K/Irving, I would imagine the prices are set by them, not Common Man. My assumption is that the vending machines are a different entity, either run by the Common Man or the State of NH. Common Man leases the space in the rest area from the state for their restaurants.

$7.99 for two dogs and chips is pretty reasonable for that location I would say.

If you're looking for inexpensive hotdogs your best bet would be to go to Market Basket and then cook them up yourself. The price will be right and the service will be at your pace.

Or you could find a restaurant that actually makes a good one.You should expect better than a market basket hot dog. Lets face it, the place is the poster child for tourist trap. Great location, bad food, It is what it is. It's to bad, I don't think it will change with the lines I see every time I go by. If you're going to offer a hot dog other than the kids menu, and you have pride in what you serve, You should try to make it stand out a little. The dogs are just the example here, I haven't had anything I would care to reorder or recommend.

Nothing better than a New York city hot dog from a street vendor. Always try to get them on a Saturday afternoon as by then they have been in the water since Sunday AM and the vendor is just short of his weekly Saturday night shower. They don't get any better anywhere in the world.

The hot dog cart at Wolfeboro town docks is excellent. They serve Sabretts. $6.50 for a dog, chips, and lemonade (real lemonade). I have them substitute lemon Italian ice instead of regular ice. Worth every penny!! "Hot Dog Bob" - great guy!!

Nope you have that wrong.... Granite State Hospitality... AKA the common man, runs the rest area, I am sure they have a company that handles the vending machines, but they are responsible for everything but the liquor store....

Now that is what I am talking about.... $6.50 including tax I am sure.....
As opposed to 7.99 plus tax.....

Despite what some may think, I was not disipointed in the dogs and chips... the meal was quite good... I just think price is over the top.... if it had included a drink, then not so much....

I agree that common man runs the rest area, aside from the liquor store.
The gas station is an Irving, and the convenience store is Circle K. I am 100% sure of that. I am unable to find an accurate link online, but I will swing in there on my way home one night this week.

I can confirm that I was correct. I stopped there last night, and it is definitely a Circle K. They have the summer game cards that the other Circle K stores have. I can see how there could be confusion, as the store is labeled as a Common Man General Store, and the employees do have Common Man name tags.

Circle K and Irving are Franchises.... Common Man is owner operator.... Or rather Granite State Hospitality is owner operator of the Franchises.

That could be true, I didn't think of that.

went to the town docks for dinner a couple nights ago. i think this was our 6th or 7th time there, and for me it will be the last. the food was terrible. i ordered the grilled fish tacos and had to send them back. they were swimming in liquid. the tortillas were sopping wet, gross. they were pleasant about it and offered to bring me something else so i just got a burger. the burger was ok flavor wise, but it too was swimming, this time in grease. i ate about half of it and that was all i could do. i've given that place enough chances and i've never had a good meal there so that's it for me. great atmosphere, nice staff, but their food just isn't good and they're too overpriced. tourist trap.

Yup. We've not gone there at all this season. Problem is, too many people either don't care or don't see a problem, so I don't see change coming anytime soon.

That's too bad. I've been a couple times this summer. I had the fish tacos once and loved it. When the weather's nice I can't think of another casual place with a water view I'd rather be(beside Lakeside Deli for lunch) to hang out, have dinner, listen to music and watch the boats. Love to top it all off with a raspberry cheesecake ice cream. My family loves it. My only wish is to bring back the lobster corn chowder! For $12 fish tacos, they exceeded my expectations. if they didn't we're still going back.

You have to take it for what it is. Awesome atmosphere, ice cream and drinks. As far as food goes some items are really good others ok but I don't go there for a gourmet meal. It's all about relaxing and fun with one of the best views of the lake.

I laughed when I read this. I think we were the same the night and, from the sounds of it, had the same fish tacos. They were definitely not up to common man standards. My wife has ordered them previously there and said they are usually much better.

However, we're considering it a one off and will happily return. We go there frequently. Cannot beat the proximity to the docks, atmosphere, view, music, and the food/drink is usually pretty good in our opinion.

We have been several times. A great place to have a drink. The food is the pits. The owners know atmosphere sells so they serve very, very sub par food. We won't be back anytime soon.

Agreed the atmosphere and the drinks are good - food is just OK. We go for a light lunch or a snack or someplace just to hang out
