YAWN, wake me up when the world comes to an end
And what's with the weather channel and their naming storms as if they are hurricanes and assigning them def con status, are you kidding me what is this romper room? Oh the drama sending reporters out to stand in the snow banks and report it's snowing out. Really? Never would have figured that out! I find it comical how childish the whole thing is. |

And everybody flocks to the grocery store to get enough bread, milk and toilet paper for the next six months. And I could never understand the stampedes to the hardware store to get a snow shovel.........really? you didn't have a snow shovel?

Doomsday prepper reality!
Our favorite is the reporters standing along side the roads giving a blow by blow call. "yup, they're moving" "Traffic has really slowed down" "I can see some bare pavement" And of course, they always stand in front the huge salt piles just before the storm to make it's arrival seem more ominous!

Head for the hills!
I just watched the weather on CNN. Their reporter was live from Grant Park in Chicago where they got "2 INCHES" of snow overnight. Stay tuned for updates as the situation changes.

On air reporters have words the love to use, often incorrectly. They will talk about a school shooting "incident".
in·ci·dent (ns-dnt) n. 1. A usually minor event or condition that is subordinate to another. But the word they screw up the most is "literally". "When her parents found out they literally exploded!" Wow, that must have made a mess. They use the word laterally when they really mean figuratively. |

they did this last year.
Quote:
They stated that the storms were not "officially" named like hurricanes are, that it was only the Weather Channel that was doing the naming, and that they felt the public understood when a bad storm was approaching and didn't need a name. Pretty good putdown to the Weather Channel, aka NBC reality channel number xx.

Funny thing there too...
This big storm is not a "mid-west" origination; it started down in the deep south and southwest, moved to the mid-Atlantic coast gathering moisture as it went, and now is coming up the coast. I guess everyone wants to get a slice of this storm.

This is a perfect storm if you plow. It's going to be a light fluffy snow that hits hard and fast in the wee hours of a Sunday morning. Empty parking lots, empty streets. Easy clean up.
It's good to hear some plow operators will have a little extra money before Christmas. I have to believe a snow storm before Christmas helps with the local economy. |

OH Cool! Something to report... Send the reporters out to stand in front of the big card board sign that says no gas.
Bet that will make the 6:00 news on WMUR. |

Thanks for reminding me. I turned on the furnace today.
The wife says "Thank you." too. Actually she had quite a bit to say but let's leave it at "Thank you!" |

We were at the grocery store this morning, doing our normal shopping. Both of us commented on how busy it was, wondering why as it was still too far from Christmas to be holiday shopping.
It wasn't until we were driving home and listening to the hysteria on the radio that we realized why many were there. Clearly we missed the memo and promptly turned around to return and buy enough milk, water, and bread to last us through the storm of the century. |

Beautiful...love it
During the winter months, snowmobiles account for around 20% of our business. Moultonborough Snowmobile club does a great job grooming and keeping the trails open. Thanks to them and thanks to mother nature for this early storm. |

So yesterday
I went to the store at the end of my street for a gallon of milk. They were out of gas as was the Cumberlands down the road. You couldn't find a parking spot at the the big-Y grocery store. They have several hundred spots.
Today I wake up and find 6" of snow in the drive way. Streets are clear and no power outages in the area. So yes it was a "panic" situation around my place. I will never understand people who are so unprepared for a small weather event. ToW |

We got 13" of fluff up here on Turkey Hill is West Alton. Enough so that it took a while to clear the 650' of steep gravel driveway plus two parking areas. There was a steady flow of traffic heading west on Cherry Valley Road toward Gunstock. We may get over tomorrow morning if it is not too cold & windy.
