Now there’s an example of a really nice guy! I wish he would return to the forum.

This is accurate and among the examples I refer to when pointing out people leaving the forum and/or no longer engaging publicly.

Default Forum names

My family was in the summer camp business, so this name seemed natural.

I share your thoughts Sue.

I agree with Steve. Unfortunately the last time he signed in was Sept 2021.

I miss his fishing posts, whether through the ice or while trolling with his nicely outfitted pontoon, his knowledge of all things salmon, but most of all, the beautiful sunset pictures from his spot of heaven on the westerly side of Welch's.

Default ...... Top Water and APS ...... m.i.a. .... (?)

Digging into the forum name cemetery for deceased names, APS and Top Water are two former forum heavies who took a powder from dis here forum and left the building to go somewhere else, or something.

Top Water was totally pissed about some unknown item, and deleted his 600 black & white, historic lakes region photos. ....

APS disappeared for a reason, unknown ...... possibly he simply got eroded away by a Malibu wake boat! ......

So folks, people presumably know APS, Top Water, ishoot308, others and their absence has had an adverse impact on the Forum because of maybe some snarky comment. Very unfortunate. But I tend to think that maybe there needs to be some outreach to these folks and see if we can get them back. Loosing all those historical pictures just impacts so many historically interested people.

Here's the challenge..... Somehow, maybe people can make an outreach to these folks and ask them to reconsider a return ASAP. "Life it too short but it is the longest thing you will ever do". Make the most of it and COME BACK...please !!!!! There can be some real good from this thread on top of the fun of knowing what the background was for name creation!!

Don't forget Hillcountry, Major, Cal Coon, etc.

I've talked to most of these people behind the scenes, and the common tone is that the forum has much more drama than in the past and often loses its way.

I have pointed this out in some posts of my own where people have made an issue out of "offensive" language, "repetitive" posts, etc.

What's worse is that when these things happen, the supporters often remain silent—we saw it with Joey a few weeks ago and I've got PMs from people who have been "with me" but don't post publicly because they don't want to get involved in the drama.

The result for some people, then, is to walk away when the frustration outweighs the value.

There's no surprise here. Society in general "has much more drama than in the past and often loses its way." Forums are a microcosm of society, with the emotion intensified by the freedom to break social rules under cover of anonymity. Failing to come to people's defense when something like bullying (or murders, robberies, etc.) happens is also a known social tendency. That strategy eventually backfires because it gives license to aggressive people and then things fall apart. All lamentable, but pervasive. You would think it would be possible for a small group of people in a forum to agree on a code of conduct and follow it. But the difficulty of even two people to coexist peacefully shows that relationships are conflict by nature.

Lake Breeze is a nod to a beloved cottage colony on 19 Mile Bay, once owned by friends - sold in 1976.

Default what's in a name??

Mine comes from years as the skipper of the Sophie C since 1994 - cruising my favorite lake, using someone else's fuel, and getting paid for it. It's been a great run. Passengers frequently amazed about island life.

sometimes if I'm outside I hear the narration of the boat captains... " picture this...islanders drive up to their boat slips, unload the vehicles, load their boats, boat home, unload their boats and bring it all inside".... that sounds like a lot of work!! :-)

And then it all has to go back again, or, into the mainland dumpster/recycle bin.

My last name is a long Polish name and most people who try to pronounce it panic and mangle it. (It really isn't that tough, at least the Americanized version of it) In high school I was the only person our gym teacher addressed by their first name. Everyone else was Mr. ........

People started to call me Jeffk (K being the initial of my last name) and I liked it so ...
It's on my license plate.
It's part of my email.
It's in many of my user names, including on the forum.

I had a few canned sandwiches during a backyard BBQ one day and my wife was looking for the bug spray. I knew where it was, but I couldn't remember what a 4-wheeler was called. So, instead of saying on top of the 4-wheeler I stumbled a for a seconded and said it was one top of the Trail Goer thingy... We call them Trail Goers in my house now.

Shortly after moving here, I became involved in the ancient sport of curling. I slide rocks down the ice...

What gave you the urge to pick up curling?

I always found it interesting, and the opportunity presented itself when a handful of people organized a league in Wolfeboro not too long after we moved here. It was a great way to connect with people, being new to the area; I made some great friends, and it is a pretty addictive game when you get into it. Seven years later and still at it.

My family has a place on Suncook right up the road from you. Be happy to help you out when I'm up that way with tips/tricks to make things a little easier!

I checked out the new ramp at Downings Landing in Alton and they did a really nice job with it! There were even a few spots open to park on the 4th! It would be an ideal spot to launch for ya, and a lot less steep than the ramp at Shibley's.

I didn’t realize there were responses to my comment lol…..but that looked pretty close to how I expected it to go. I actually did pretty good, started on Crystal Lake in Gilmanton to practice before going on the big lake.

Congratulations! It's really not that difficult, especially when you don't have a crowd of onlookers waiting for you to screw up!

No snarky comment, but got tangled-up by not remembering my Gmail password. Google frustrated my return for weeks!

I'll mention my avatar now that its legibility is challenged by the small screens of Smartphones:

It's a chipmunk returning to a large glass jar containing hundreds of stainless steel nuts. (The label "Nuts" is facing the viewer). Our local chipmunk is a frequent visitor to our porch for sunflower treats. The chippy climbed up, as expected, and gave us a perfect bummed-out look!

No need to explain mine!
I’ve lived in Alton Bay almost 51 years.
My dad was marine patrol on the lake 20++ years and would take me out on patrol occasionally, he could navigate that lake blind folded if he had to.
I’ve always loved the lake and use in recreationally year round and work at a marina on the lake, I just can’t get away from it ! LOL

My recollection is that your tag is short for " Acres per second", which was the complaint you were making about the speed of Winni boats, it must have disrupted your "chipmunk whispering"

APS disappeared for a reason, unknown ...... possibly he simply got eroded away by a Malibu wake boat! ......
And here I thought you changed from ApS to currect tag due to unpopularity of the tone of your posts (. . . hummm)

It's hard to say. The avatar picture is about eight years old, which is the lifespan of a domesticated (and caged) chipmunk. In the "wilds" of Wolfeboro, I'd guess their lifespans are half of that.

I take an inventory upon my first arrival at the lake by whistling into the woods. At least one "trained" chipmunk will respond by sprinting around woodpiles, fallen branches, racing along walkways and bounding up the stairs. All of that energy expended for a few sunflower seeds!

I was pleased that my original phrase--Acres per Second--was invoked by a supporter at an official State hearing. "Speed" is mostly behind us.

And yes, I remember your participation in long-forgotten Wolfeboro forums. Your discussions were primarily directed in discussing local foodspots--mine about things and the "Science of People".

As to "tone" it may be due to arriving at Lake Winnipesaukee--from Sebago Lake's "Doctor's Island"--during WWII. Our Winter Harbor cottage was built in 1956. You could've called it "Paradise" or "Heaven".

From as recently as 1975, a slalom water-ski course was set up inside Johnson's Cove. The effects of ever-growing turbulence on water quality and erosion is easily displayed in photos taken of our lakefront. Or, at one time, our concrete mooring was visible from the surface--but no longer.

I'm unable to say, "Get off my lawn".
