Default Bike Week 2020 - Aug???

Found this on the official MW site.
Looks like if it does not happen in June they are going to try for the end of August - seems like that would be bumping into the normal summer operations.

My apologies if this was posted prior - I could not find it in a search.

Covid-19 / Rally Update
Optimism for the 97th Progressive Laconia Motorcycle Week®

LACONIA, New Hampshire, March 27, 2020: The Board of Directors of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association held a teleconference meeting on March 26th and determined a decision would be made no later than April 30th on whether or not the Rally would be postponed from June 13th-21st, 2020 to August 22nd – 30th, 2020. At this time, they are optimistic the rally will still be held in June.

“This could be a huge boost for morale of not just motorcycle enthusiasts but everyone in the region,” says Charlie St. Clair, Executive Director for the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association. “This event brings millions of dollars to the state and is critically important to NH businesses & our tourism economy. Not only that, we have all been cooped up inside for well over a month - What better way to tell the world we’re returning to normal when we hear the familiar June roar of motorcycles returning to Weirs Beach?”

The health and wellness of fellow riders and motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere continues to be Laconia Motorcycle Week’s #1 priority. Over the next several weeks, directors will continue to maintain communication with local and state officials and will post any/all updates to LaconiaMCWeek.com, through their e-newsletter, and on all #LaconiaMCWeek social media channels.

Laconia Motorcycle Week® gives great appreciation to all of our sponsors, especially our Presenting Sponsors: Progressive, AMSOIL, and Team Motorcycle as well as the State of New Hampshire for their large financial support of our rally each year.

“Laconia - where rallies were invented!” #LaconiaMCWeek

Agree it will bump into the summer time crowd. Very difficult logistics if they keep the same format. Believe moving it to after Labor Day and making it a three day event would work

I agree too. Seems like wishful thinking on the part of the bikers that they could get the town's/state's cooperation

Default April 22

The Motorcycle Week Board of Directors has a meeting scheduled for April 22. The decision will probably be made then.

Can not remember the dates, however, do remember one held last fall. Believe Tower Hill sponsored event. Is this scheduled for this fall?

They might be able to make it happen because money talks and that is big money, i hope not but it could happen, either keep it in June, move it to after Labor Day or postpone. Don't take vacation time away from others already booked in August. What are they going to do Bump booked reservations in August for Bike week visitors?

Agreed...ex-biker here but they can’t, in my opinion, predict any kind of postponement or re-schedule until they (we) as a state, know what the immediate future even is.

The last week in August is typically a slow week for rentals because the kids go back to school. One problem with waiting until September is much of the summer help is gone and that makes it difficult to service the large influx of people.

There are some pretty experienced minds and many local business owners involved in making the decision. Whatever they decide will be in the best interest of everyone involved.

If the NFL and NBA won't bank on September, it's tough to envision Bike Week in August

The Executive Board had a meeting during the week and they are waiting to see what changes the Governor makes to the shelter in place rule.

I would be surprised if there is not additional information in the next 5 days.

Picked up a handful of bumper stickers for this year’s event. 100 years from now thinking I can cash in with American Pickers!

The fair was scheduled for October 10 - 12. It seems like a very pessimistic outlook to cancel an event this far ahead of time. I had hoped that this situation would be substantially improved by then.

Would like to hear reasoning from the fairs organizers of their early cancellation?

For those that may wonder "WHY? This was due to the planning stages necessary to pull off such an event. The fair organizers need to plan/commit well in advance. NO EVENT ORGANIZER can commit and expend money that far in advance.

That would be akin to a restaurateur's committing to a wedding/graduation/anything. ..... Even the locals will NOT commit.
