Default Foliage Report

Any foliage updates for us out of towners? Was thinking of taking a trip up over the next couple of weeks.
Is the lack of rain affecting the colors this year?

thanks for any updates.

I think the color in the Lakes Region will be peak in about a week...great color despite the drought!

I traveled through Franconia Notch this weekend (10/8) and it was beautiful. It seemed to be peak colors until around the Campton/Plymouth exit on I-93 as you are traveling south. If the wind does not blow all the leaves away over the next day or so, you may be in luck in the central/southern part of the state.

The lack of rain has not diminished the colors.

Default VT 100 and 108

I traveled 100 and 108 in VT. Truly stunning! Another great route is 7 along Lake Champlain and shoot up to through the islands. I tried that a few years ago.
VT start and peak earlier than NH. So I travel VT one weekend and NH the next. In NH Rte 132 is a local favorite.

Default Beautiful leaves

Drove from Tuftonboro to Hanover across the top of the lake on Saturday. Unfortunately the sun wasn't out but could see lots of color.

is it just me or does the foliage colors seem more vivid on overcast days?

That could be. I drove to Franconia Saturday and spent the night at the skihouse at Mittersill and thought the foliage was fantastic from north of Plymouth up while under a totally cloudy sky. The only problem was the rest of New England did the same.

We just got back from a ride up 171 to Waterville Valley. Peak at Waterville, still time south of there.
