Default Lobster Rolls 2023

Now for the most important topic of the summer...

Went to Tamarack last night--incredibly good lobster rolls--fresh, tender, tasty, with just the barest touch of mayo and a few strips of lettuce on a grilled bun. One of the best I've had in quite some time. Also an excellent value as lobster rolls go. I was not paying close attention, but I think my jumbo was $32 and my wife's regular was $24, both were packed too big to pick up without eating some with a fork.

One small warning--wait until after Bike Week or get them to go, even if you're a biker. The whole place was shakin'. We ended up tailgating them at Meadowbrook (and probably spending less than a Meadowbrook hamburger)

I'm pleased to hear that Tamarack produced something worth posting about.

They've been around for a very long time with different owners and inconsistent quality.

I hope they're around for a long time more.

You can't go wrong with the lobster roll and fries at Pop's for $27.95

I made my own Saturday. It was awesome, bought cooked lobster meat from Sal's in Moultonboro Farms. Lobster is expensive right now.

For many, many years Tamarack was all about the Langostine lobster roll, which is ok but I always thought it was a little misleading. They sure sold a pile of them though.

Have not been there since last summer but hands down best one I've had probably ever was at poor peoples pub. Was also pleasantly surprised with the one at Naswa

What recipe do you use? I use a combination of melted butter and mayo

Default Makris

Coming out of Concord, we stop at Makris Lobster and Steakhouse on Sheep Davis Rd (Rt 106, just north of I-393) and buy a couple of pounds of lobster salad. Because everything is very fresh, they don't have a huge stockpile made ahead, so they are very appreciative if you call ahead. Use the south side entrance, not the dining room.

I was lazy Saturday, just mayo with a little bit of dill weed. I'll usually put some diced celery and some diced onion too. But overall I keep it simple, I'll have to try adding some melted butter next time.

I used Kayem hot dog rolls, grilled with butter though, it was awesome.

Lobster is expensive now, but 4 oz gave me too good sized rolls. If you want to use a fork about a third of a pound should be plenty. Hopefully the price will come down.

Default Lobster Rolls

Over the weekend purchased four chick lobsters from Tides in Rochester. $7.95 a pound and made lobster rolls along with homemade clam chowder.

My vote goes to Foot Bridge Lobster in Ogunquit, ME (Perkins Cove), they shove a whole damn lobster into a big butter grilled roll. You have the choice of mayo or butter; I always get with both and its fantastic!

Agree. Was there last week. However, parking costs must be added to the trip

I know everyone thinks I am nuts but the 99 has a lobster roll that beats everything. I am encouraged to hear that the Tamarack may be good again. Haven't tried it lately but I will.

The old Laconia standby, Vista Foods on Main St. is still a favorite!

I had a huge delicious lobster roll for lunch at Poor People's Pub yesterday- I had the choice of cold lobster salad or warm.

The warm one came with a toasted bun, a container of melted butter, and a ton of fresh lobster meat, claws, tails, and was more than I could eat in one sitting.

A heaping side of potato chips and a side of Cole slaw with the lobster roll was $26.00.

The place was pretty full at 12:30 pm- would highly rec Poor Peoples Pub

Yes, Wakefield, in the village of Sanbornville. Just off Rt. 16 at the intersection of 109 and 153. They won the best lobster roll in NH in the 2022 WMUR poll. https://www.wmur.com/article/new-ham...2022/40395306#

Default Speaking Of Lobster Rolls...

Cactus Jack's Manchester served this one to me today...Top notch!! We go to the one in Manchester for lunch at least a couple times a week. It is 10X better than the Laconia location....

They did a great job on this lobster roll!

We tried Poor People's Pub last weekend. It sure was plenty big but just "normal" tasting to me. I wouldn't say better or worse than many others but once again a very large portion.

Cant guarantee it will be nearly as good in Laconia… there is quite a difference in quality of food between the Manchester and Laconia locations… with Manchester easily winning out by a long shot!

Report back if you do go!

Default Lob Roll Contest...

...so I inadvertently held a Lob Roll Contest this weekend. On Saturday, we found ourselves at Akwa for lunch. I felt like a Lob Roll, since I hadn't had one yet this season. I think it was $33, if I remember correctly. It was massive...big chunks of meat, minimal mayo and other junk. A Purist's delight. Served on a round Brioche-type roll with lettuce. Excellent.

On Sunday, we had to get out of the house to not go crazy with all the rain and after some errands in Gilford, ended up in Patricks. I decided to go with their Lob Roll. $29, I think. Prepared very similar to Akwa with minimal mayo. Lots of meat in the traditional buttered and grilled hot dog-type roll. Excellent as well.

And the winner is.....Akwa by a nose. I've never had a lob roll that big with that much meat.

(this poster's opinion only; your taste buds may vary...)

My wife swears by the lobster rolls at Peppers Landing in Rochester. Traditional on grilled hot dog roll.

No offense to lobster lover's except a lobster is a crustacean that lives on the ocean floor, and eats all that yucky stuff, down there.

You is much better off eating a $1.50 can of Market Basket, store brand tuna fish which looks and tastes to be very high quality tuna fish. .....

Default Nh/Maine restaurant suggestions ?

Speaking of lobata rolls, I'm heading over to spend a day at seacoast beach this week, and I'm looking for NH/Maine restaurant suggestions in the Portsmouth & Kittery areas to have my lobster roll.

Not looking for a lobster shack, but a sit down restaurant.

Thanks !

For sit down, we're big fans of Robert's Maine Grill, across the street from Kittery Trading Post. It was started by Bob, of Bob's Clam Hut (classic!), also across the street. Robert's has excellent lobster rolls, clams, and a wide variety of other seafood. This is several steps up from The Weathervane, also close by. They get crowded, but reservations are available on Open Table

FlyingScot and I agree on at least one thing - we both love Robert's Maine Grille! Tremendous lobster rolls, although the last time I was there, we thought they chinsed out a bit on the amount of lobster in the roll. However, I chalked that up to being an anomaly. Can't wait to go again.

Still $26 bucks. Walk or bike 13 miles from Wolfeboro along the Cotton Valley Rail Trail and enjoy some lobstah. Then stop in at http://www.tumbledown603.com/ Tumble Down Farm for some ice cream

Hi All,

I don't order lobster rolls a lot, the PPP version looks awesome. By the way, in general, you can't go wrong the PPP. Homemade meatball subs, steak bombs, and bar style pizzas. And definitely try the german potato salad (warm, sweetish and bacony!) or perhaps the giant baked stuffed clams.

Since PPP isn't exactly at Winnipesaukee, I'm going to recommend another bit of a road trip (probably not a secret). Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond. Great steak tips, best burgers, MAC-N-Cheese, and lobsters rolls. The rolls come in regular (4oz) $26 or jumbos (8oz) $39. Bonus: 2 for one Mondays and Tuesdays! Oh and great bar staff, service and craft beers. Also, a huge meat market, specialty market.

And if you really want cheap out? Pick up a couple lobster salad finger rolls at Market Basket (right FLL?) for $8.99. Not bad!

Cheers,

Gusman

Tuckaway Tavern is in my tops list—not cheap, but ALWAYS an awesome experience. There can be a crazy wait, though—with no reservations taken—so timing things is important.

As for lobster rolls, I'm not a fan, but the ones I saw from Pop's yesterday looked pretty awesome.

I don't recall Pop's LRs being mentioned often, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Default Another different plan…..

We like to enjoy the peace and quiet from our porch, overlooking the lake…..so I buy lobster meat from Wine ing Butcher, and I make the lobster rolls right here, melted butter, lemon, and it’s pretty darn good, according to my critics here. It’s not as sexy looking as the one pictured by ishoot, however.. The lobster meat is $43/lb. Delectable!

I saw that today at the Wine'ing Butcher in Gilford when I picked up some tips. The price seemed good since Shaws is at $49.99 for lobster meat. However, the butcher sign said "lobster salad." I should have looked closer because I assumed that it had fillers and other items added and was not just lobster meat.
