Question Anyone Missing a GMC Jimmy?

from the Citizen - November 19
Quote:
An unoccupied vehicle was pulled from Lake Winnipesaukee Tuesday afternoon. Now police are trying to figure out how it got there and who it belongs to. A blue, two-door GMC Jimmy was found in Lake Winnipesaukee at the end of Peggy's Cove Road in Alton. The vehicle was half submerged in the water several feet from the end of the dock.

Acting Fire Chief Scott Williams said there is no known cause for why the car ended up in the water.

Williams pointed out deep skid marks in the dirt a few feet from the end of the land with tire treads leading toward the water. The vehicle went over a short, rocky embankment and into the water.

The Alton Fire Department had two personnel members in the water wearing cold water suits to see if anyone was in or around the vehicle. They confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied and there was no one else in or around it in the water.

There were no immediate witnesses to the incident and the vehicle's driver was unknown. Fire crews took the license plate number and gave it to police to investigate further.

Peggy's Cove Road is mostly occupied by seasonal residents with three houses which are occupied year-round.

Resident Tammy Brown said she was returning home from work around 2:20 p.m., looked over the hill "and I saw there was a car in the water."

She went into her house and called 911 and went out to the dock to make sure no one was in the vehicle.

A wrecker from Doug Roberts Auto Service in New Durham pulled the vehicle out of the water with help from the rescue crews in wetsuits.

Fire Department personnel put floaters in the water to clean up any oil or fuel that may have leaked into the lake.

The vehicle was last in the possession of the Alton Police Department, which will investigate the incident further.

Default Early Ice Fisherman testing the ice?

It's probably the same guy from last year who drove onto the ice early to "test it". Needs to read the thread on ice formation.....

Default Father & Son Talk

Father, "Son, your home early."
Son, "Yeah".
Father, "Have you been drinking?"
Son, "What?"
Father, "Where's the SUV?"
Son, "Where?"

Talking Why a Jimmy ?

That's a good question. I'm not sure if I have the answer but here's some reasons why the other SUVs aren't at the bottom ...

The Suburban stays in the city, doesn't venture to the waters edge.
Similarly the Forrester stays in the woods. And the Mountaineers and Highlanders ... goes w/o saying.
The Land Cruiser and Range Rover stay on the land, don't go out onto the lake.
The Navigator knows where to go and where not to.
The Cayenne is hot, it's fast enough to skim across the water.
The Bronco bucks the trend to go out there.
The Bravada, oddly, lacks the courage.
The Escape does get into trouble from time to time but manages to .... well ... get away.
The Amigos also get in trouble but always get pulled out by a friend before public notice ... probably by a Sidekick.
Samuris do sink but all you find are the guts.

To me the real question is how come we don't find more Typhoons or Armadas ?

Typhoons just blow away and the Armadas sunk off the coast of England.

I dunno, probably just a glitch in my Matrix. I'm a little out of my Element. Frankly I had hoped some others would chime in with an Avalanche of SUV puns. It would be a RAV4 all of us.

Default Word around Alton is...

...that the police are looking for the driver, who was described as wearing a Blazer.

Had it been in the Yukon, the lake would probably be frozen by now, so no sinking.

Default This is a sad story

I don't want to get too inVolvoed in this discussion, except to point out this poor guy is probably sad and Saabing over his lost car. And I'm positive he regrets that someone had a camaro with them, took the picture of his car, and splashed it all over this Forum, InAcurately, I might add.

Patrol the Discovery in Alton Bay for an Infinity, and Vanquish Cavalier speculation that a Ramcharger type of Samarui Darted Cavalierly into a Silhouette of Escape. Elite speculation leads a Celebrity Roadmaster like myself to a Rocky regatta conclusion, where the Venture(ist) couldn't see the Horizon.

The driver tried to TRAVERSE the rode to SANTA FE looking for the NAVAJO but got lost and wound up in DAKOTA. It seems the EXCERTION wound up a bad EXPEDITION.

Talking What a Rogue

The more I thought of it, the more I wondered what kind of Saab story we'll hear when "Jimmy" comes forth. Probably wasn't paying attention because he was looking at an Aurora or watching an Eclipse or some other goofy reason for lack of Focus. At least he didn't dial 911 for help, small Tribute to his Vigor I guess.

Default Jimmy did it

I enjoyed all the car-toons of sorts that are on this tread. However, I recall a few years ago at the boat ramp in Peggy Cove that a person launched an aluminum row boat with a small moter, was testing it out. Left his cadilac and trailer in the water, He did not put the car completly into park, left the car running and when he got back, his car he thought was gone. But his boat found it, and it landed on the roof. Yup, the car backed down by itself into the water and went under.

Well, I spoke with our intrepid police chief the other day. He tells me they found the guy - his name is Mark Cooper and he had his wife Sierra in the car with him. The story is rather intrigue-ing - a real classic!

Anyhow, according to the chief it sounds like he got to the ridgeline of the summit on Peggy's Cove and he was doing about 80 when a deer jumped out in front of him and he tried to dodge it but the deer was being chased by a lynx. The guy hit his breaks and skidded about five-hundred feet, right into the water. The guy had no clue he was right on the edge of the water.

Mark knew it would take a century to get the car out of the water and didn't want try to be a celebrity by pulling it out himself. He also knew his insurance company would get him a car of a better caliber if he claimed this accident. However, the insurance company is bound to see this charade!

Isn't this where we started ? I guess we didn't answer why a Jimmy so much as why it isn't some other SUV. Like a Mercedes ML-350 .... you don't see them in the water much. They get the Benz.

Default ...the case has been cracked!!!

From the Baysider - November 27
Quote:
BY BRENDAN BERUBE
Staff Writer
Police investigating origin of mystery vehicle

ALTON
— Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the origin of an unoccupied SUV that was pulled from the waters of Alton Bay last week. At approximately 2:30 p.m. on the afternoon of Nov. 18, Alton fire and police personnel responded to a 911 call made by a Peggy’s Cove Rd. resident who spotted the back end of a blue, two-door GMC Jimmy jutting out of the water several feet from the end of a nearby dock when she returned home from work. Two firefighters immediately donned cold water suits and dived into the water to search for anyone who might have been trapped inside the vehicle, but found no trace of the SUV’s former occupants in or around it. With no witnesses to the incident, and the driver of the vehicle unknown, the only evidence indicating how the vehicle had wound up in the bay was a set of skid marks in the dirt a few feet from the shoreline. After confirming that there were no occupants in need of help, the fire department called in a wrecker from Doug Roberts Auto Service of New Durham to pull the vehicle (which did have a license plate) from the water, and turned it over to the police department. Police Chief Phil Smith announced in an e-mail to The Baysider on Nov. 19 that “the case has been cracked,” and that he would provide further details shortly. The fire department placed floaters in the water to remove any oil or gasoline that might have leaked out into the bay.

Upon Discoveryng the doors and windows were locked, further delays were incurred before we were able to Jimmy the locks".

Sounds like a bunch of Excursions down the wrong Pathfinder , if you ask me.

All this thread seems to be lacking is a 25 billion dollar bailout.

Just my 2 cents worth....

If they get the bailout $$$, will GM spend some of it on bailing-out the Jimmy? By now, this Jimmy may be the most famous submerged vehicle since that 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88.

Default and yet

Lets not lose FOCUS. I wonder what is the status of the investigation since the DISCOVERY of the Submerged Utility Vehicle was made. Is this a TEMPEST in a tea pot?

Default Last rites

It does not bode well for JIMMY; the PRIUS(T) arrived and gave JIMMY his last rites.

Yes, Steve, 7-18-69, the day that even an Armada of Celebrity barristers of the highest Caliber and their accompanying Entourage couldn't help Tipsy Ted (aka Fat Boy) Escape from his Express Journey to the Enclave of shame, facing a Torrent of Crossfire.

It could have been worse: he could have been driving a Toyota Sprinter or Toyota Chaser.

As an Escort, it wasn't very Valiant or Galant to depart the scene, but 911 was in its infancy back then, so he was able to Dodge all Avengers, maintain the Imperial family legacy in politics, and still appear Smart.

My uncle Cy is a classic snowbird, heading south when the first signs of winter appear.

However, he has been delayed this year and hasn't left yet. I hope we can get Scion the road soon, before the bad weather hits.

Jimmy was born a Rambler man,
Trying to take a turn, doing the best he can,
A splash meant time for leavin,
I hope you'll understand,
Don't need no SUV, Jimmy's a Rambler man.
