Question Surprise Investment for The Lake House...

An auction for your new boating adventure with eight hours remaining to bid. I expect this "boat" to exceed $100,000!

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...r-model-770-3/

Nearly 40 HP! https://www.carfolio.com/amphicar-model-770-73997

Replace that steep walk from the beach with an object that increases in value?

Your right APs ............. 1:00pm and it's at $101k

That will certainly jump in the last 15 min of bidding.

Many (many) decades ago.

Grandpa took us to the Weirs by boat. To see the fireworks. Night time.

In the melee of boats roaming around Weirs bay was one of these.

AND. The boat driver turned on the directional (blinkers) lights to make a turn.

The Marine Patrol immediately turned on police lights and pulled car/boat over for violation. Apparently, red flashing lights (at that time) were illegal.

In the early 60's we saw one of these pass through Sallie's Gut...All the passengers were nuns in full habits and veils.

There are some things you'll remember forever.

Default Choices

If I was going to spend that amount of money (and I am not) this seems like a better choice. More practical, faster, and more useful. The price is in the same neighborhood.

But, there is something to be said about the heritage of the Amphicar.

Wink Good Time For A Bargain!

Just half-price:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...r-model-770-7/

As a cub, I remember having to grease all the fittings on this kind of "boat". You had to be careful while using the usual pneumatic grease guns as, in the wrong hands, the seal could blow up like a black balloon!

Question Five Hours to End of Auction...

The market has gotten soft for most collectors' cars.

What will this Amphicar reach for the big bucks?

Question Here it is, the 1926 Peugeot amphibious vehicle.

1926 Peugeot motor-boat car ....... https://www.cultofweird.com/transpor...geot-boat-car/, three black & white photos.

Apparently, it was a phony car/boat that did not actually work as either a car or a motorboat, and was intended to be a photographic model used to advertise the company's boat brand, the Peugeot Nautica.

Many Many decades ago.

Grandpa took the family big boat to Weirs 4th July fireworks. Night time.

In the mass of boats at Weirs Harbor was an Amphicar. And the Amphicar was using his red rear turn signal (blinkers) to turn boat in Weirs Bay.

The Marine Patrol - with police lights flashing - pulled the Amphicar over or stoped it.

Apparently, as legend is told. The flashing red light (turn signal) of the Amphicar was illegal. Family legend states that a flashing red light on the lake was not legal - at that time.

None know if ticket was issued to driver of Amphicar in Weirs Harbor at night with red turn signal going [blinking).

In the lively discussions about unique auction finds like the Amphicar, it's fascinating to see how technology has evolved to support such niche markets. For instance, there are platforms now that make bidding on and managing such unique assets more streamlined and transparent. One notable advancement is in the form of detailed vehicle inspection reports, which can greatly enhance a buyer's confidence, especially in auctions where the condition and history of a vehicle play a crucial role in its value. These reports, part of a broader suite of auction management tools, provide a level of detail and grading that can turn an uncertain bid into an informed investment. It's a testament to how far we've come in making every aspect of auctions, even for the most unusual items, accessible and manageable from anywhere.
