Default Winnipesaukee conditions last weekend

Last thursday, feb 24th, riding on the lake was hard, a patch work of bumpy ice and thin crusty snow. Friday we got 10 inches of wonderful powder. The wind gave the snow some character, like waves, it was like riding a jet ski. Sunday we got another 4 inches. The bay north side of Governor's Island was in great shape for the kids to bomb around and still tend the ice fishing, we also went to Merrideth and Center harbor. If we get on the lake this saturday, we'll probably do the whole lake, breakfast at Rosie's in Center Harbor, Lunch at Shipplys in Alton Bay. One thing i've noticed, is the lack of preasure ridges on the ice. I thot after all those wind storms we'd have some real whopper ice ridges.

PS George are you online.? riding the lake.?

Cheers, David

We did some pretty decent lake riding as well. We were out during the week and experienced the same conditions as you. Sleds did not like the lack of cooling snow I can tell ya that for sure!

As soon as the storm ended on Friday we hit the lake and were treated to one of those rides where you feel as though you are floating. There is nothing like that. It feels like you are jetskiing on a flat still-water lake.

My biggest concern with riding the lake this weekend will be the moisture content. I wonder if the rain that came the other day and the warm up on the horizon will turn the lake into a slush nightmare?
