Default Sleds and The Castle

We were up walking around Castle in the Clouds this weekend as we frequently do. The discussion came up about the winter and snow mobile use. Does that property allow snow mobiles to access the property and ride anywhere? I thought they did, just wondering. All their paths through the woods seem as though they'd make awesome trails all though I'd suspect their not allowed on those.

There is one trail that crosses the Castle property that starts at the 171 parking lot and winds up Shaw Mountain leading to Ossipee. There is a spur that brings you to Shaw Mountain Overlook.

You cannot access the Castle from the trails any longer.

Not even to the carriage house? I remember how much fun that was.

They conservation group who owns the property changed the rules after gaining control of the property to significantly limit trail access . During the fundraising to acquire the property they didn't specify what their intentions were. Many, including myself, felt it was an unethical approach.

The first Season after they took ownership of the property the TRAIL, singular, was not open till first or second week of February.

There was a question on the Insurance coverage provided by the State for the Landowner Coverage.

There has been an effort to open 1 more Trial to alleviate the congestion on the present Trial. It would alleviate running up all of the Switch-Backs. It would be a Safer Trail and make Groom it a little easier.

No one is holding their breath on this though.

It used to be beautiful up there. The trail to Roberts and its lookouts, plus many others. What a loss

I definitely won't be holding my breath. These people know what is best for the land. Just ask them and they will tell you why it is good for you, too. Environmental terrorists is what I call them.
