I realize that the post above is almost a year old, but does anyone know how the runway ice is doing so far this year and how it looks for 2020?

Also, is the Winter Carnival 2020 already scheduled or do they wait on that until we're further into winter?

Default Good news, bad news thing

It's a good news, bad news kind of thing.

Good news is the ice has caught almost all the way out the bay. Bad news is that it is no where near thick enough to lay out the airport, never mind land a plane on it.

We need little snow(it insulates) and cold weather. Usually not open until mid-January or later. Keep the good thoughts heading this way, Dave.

Thanks for the update.

We'll be checking NOTAMs but it always helps to get first hand info.

Dave, also as we get closer, Paul Larochelle does a great job updating conditions on the Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway Facebook page.

Keep the shiny side up
