Default Laconia Bypass Closed for Paving

Started a new thread from the one in "getting here " because the title said Sunday.

The Bypass will be closed tonight, Monday, starting at 7 PM for paving. Just saw the signs earlier this morning, and have not seen anything in the papers regarding any further closures after tonight.

Default By-Pass Work

When we came through this area at the bottom of the steep hill, we saw sections of guardrail, as well as the scarified (sp?) roadway, ready for paving. 🚙

I find it quite comical ( but not surprised as this is NH) that they went gangbusters just a few weeks before bike week on ripping apart the bridge by piche's. They worked round the clock for over a week and had traffic detoured down the off ramps. Then....... NOTHING, for almost 2 months now... I don't get it, still not finished.. There's always next year!!

Well there are three unrelated things going on on the bypass.
1. The bridge decking is done but the side rebuild is not. That finish work does not impact traffic.
2. Guard rails are being replaced a section at a time. Some lane changes as they are working.
3. Repaving the bypass which has just started.

No doubt if you were in charge, all would be much better managed.

We have been going over the Bypass on Friday mornings since they started work on the Gilford Ave bridge, sometimes 2 - 3 times in a week. Work on the bridge has been almost non - stop. In the last week or so all along the Bypass, the old guardrails with wooden posts have been replaced with new guardrails with metal posts. Work has been done on the guardrails rather quickly. When we went through the Gilford Ave work zone last Friday, only the westbound side of Gilford Ave was impacted by construction; eastbound side maybe done. Seems like it maybe just about complete.

I take the bypass just about every morning and evening and I thought they did great job when doing the bridge work. Their plan to reroute traffic worked very well and was barely a hindrance. The little temporary paved areas they made between the bypass and the exit ramp worked great and have now been removed so I guess that kills the conspiracy theorist argument that the police would be using it to catch speeders coming down the hill.

The signs now read "Night Paving", but not closed, according to my wife.

Anyone know the latest status of paving and when will be completed?

The Timberman Tri is this w/e being held at Elacoya, and folks will be wanting to take the by-pass to reach their destination.

Anyone?

I traveled the length of it today around 10AM and again at 12 Noon. It seems to be paved on both sides from about 106 to Gilford and back to 106. Patches missing from 106 to Rte 3 in Belmont. No lane closures either direction. Lines are not painted yet but they do have center lane reflectors in place, nothing for the lane separation going up the hill from Belmont to Gilford.

Today's electronic sign repeats "paving at night seek alternate routes". Looks like they are almost done. No problem at daytime today, not sure about very early Sat, prior to 6am. Later should be ok.
