Arrow new High Country t-bar at WV

https://www.newenglandskiindustry.co...hp?storyid=673 .... newly installed and running for 2018-2019 .... like, almost right now!

After 51 years of use the Waterville Valley ski area has removed their two seater, High Country chair lift and replaced it with a two person t-bar in a slightly different location off to the right of the old lift.

This is totally excellent news. That old chairlift was the slowest ski lift ever made in the world history of ski lifts, plus it was usually closed due to high winds or something.

I just wish their new t-bar lift was a high speed, rope tow which would be way better than a t-bar, because a fast, killer-diller rope tow is as much fun going up, as it is to ski down, a double play winner, going up and down ...... but still, this new t-bar looks to be a very welcome improvement ...... so, three cheers for WATERVILLE VALLEY even if it should have been done about 50 years ago ..... back in 1967-68 ...... oh well! ..... is better to be late than to be never ....... Team Sununu is rock'n and roll'n this old mountain!

https://www.newenglandskiindustry.co...hp?storyid=712

No doubt about it, you need to be super rich to go skiing ..... skiing is an expensive sport! ..... have you ever heard about the Ski-93 ski areas ..... well, 93-dollars is this years Waterville Valley, age 18-64, holiday and Saturday price ..... so's Ski-93 as in Route 93 has now become Ski-$93 ..... will the State of NH be placing a dollar sign on all their highway signs to reflect this new high price ...... Ski-$93 ...... is it worth it? .....like, what else could you do with the $93 for 8-hours of Saturday lift skiing?

Back about 2011 or 2012, when Team Sununu first acquired the ski area, they tried going with ten dollar Tuesdays and Thursdays as a way to build the business, but those low prices only lasted for maybe one season. I can recall Chris Sununu saying something like 'the problem with charging just ten dollars is that what you get is a ten dollar skier.' That comment always make me laugh ..... wonder what he mean by that?

Default The Vail of the East....

Chris is going to have to do a lot more before I give WV a big thumbs up. Let's start by:
- replacing the main lift with a new six pack with heated seats
- joining in on either the Epic or IKon pass bandwagon
- building that gondola coming out of the village they have been taking about for the past 50 years.

Heck while they are at it, build another ski pod over to the right going all the way up to the top.

Default ..... BMW- Saturdays at WV?

What will never happen, but what would be my choice; returning the High Country, mountain top, big bucks restaurant, cabin Schwinde Hut's upper floor back to a big open space, heated with a big, old wood stove in the middle of the room. In the corner, they sold hot chocolate, coffee, and large baked potatoes in two flavors, regular or seasoned for a dollar.

Saturdays seem like it is BMW day at WV with all nine parking lots all half full up with all BMW's from Massachusetts, paying $93 to ski? Saturday is the pay day for WV .... oh well .... all this ski stuff comes with a big electricity bill for the ski area.

Two short miles away, the US Forest Service has seven miles of multiple use trails that become seven miles of very scenic xc ski trails for just $5/parked vehicle .... and it comes with the #1 best view, looking upward, of the ski area trails. Xc vs down hill ...... so, what's the difference ..... there's no electricity bill?

www.waterville.com/environmental/ ...... "Treated effluent from the Town's award winning wastewater treatment plant is reused in snowmaking per agreement with state and federal agencies." ....... so's ...... maybe you want to flush twice ..... because it's a long way from here up to those ski slopes ...... ho-ho-ho-ha-ha-ha!

Default Never say never...

Never say never. With Loon, Cannon and now Bretton Woods having covered lifts, WV will not want to be left out in the cold. Even Tenney has a gondie in their master plan.

Take those tax breaks while you can Chris. Those blue Massholes are moving up in droves and lining up at the voting booths.

Default World championships at WV

Excited to see the National Chapionships ski racing come back to WV. Late March 2019. The best ski racers in the country will be competing for gold.
Coming from Vermont and Killington being our home hill. We have been enjoying World Cup ski racing at its best at a New England venue for the past two years. In less than two weeks World Cup racing will be back again. One of my favorite weekends of the season. GO USA!!

My daughter ski raced for years.
Tommy's at WV is one of the toughest GS runs around. If you survive the last compression gassed is an understatement across the line. She loved it.

Fun stuff. My daughter ski raced also. Unfortunately it was hard on her body with the crashes and all. Guessing you heard the saying “ if you are not crashing or skiing out your not pushing the limits”

Default ..... winter is here in WV?

Nov 15: With the local WV temp now at ten degrees, the snow guns are pumping out the snow, up and down White Caps, base to top of the quad, and seems likely WV will actually be open for turkey day which is seven days away.

www.waterville.com/cams/

The Valley has natural snow cover all around, with about 5" of heavy dense snow cover, which makes it all look very very white, like winter. Winter is here in WV, but will it be staying, or what? About six miles down the road, on Rt 49 in Thornton and Campton, the ground has no snow, and is all looking like late summer?

Do believe the four miles of smooth dirt Livermore Rd going up the WMNF is probably doable for xc skiing at this time with your WMNF windshield $5-day/$30-year vehicle sticker. Can always hike it on foot, just off the side of the road ..... or bike it on a pedal bicycle ......a multiple use, dog friendly trail.
