We got back from Jost Van Dyke last night. 6 days seemed to go by in a flash. Got out just in time though, they had a water main break shortly after then a 5.1 earthquake hit early this morning in the Virgin Islands!

This is easy, and means we can have reasonable water depths past August 1. I still remember Hurricane Carol in 1954. Weirs docks were all under water at least a foot. Some larger boats in Channel boathouses had to be "sunk" to get them out of the boathouse so they wouldn't be damaged by hitting rafters/roofs. No thought about a NWZ lake-wide as far as I can remember. (No Marine Patrol in those days; Public Utilities Commission only).

I have been very busy, that's for sure! I use my phone for everything, and the Tapatalk app just spins it's wheels lately. Don't know if others are having the same issues with it.

As the summer starts to wind down, I have to come to the realization that everything that keeps me busy on the lake will soon be going away. As many of you know, living on the lake isn't an inexpensive proposition, consequently I have to continue to work, even though retirement age is behind me. If someone is looking for a hardworking, conscientious funny guy to fill a void somewhere through mid April, look no further! That is all!

Summer is winding down thank goodness, fall and winter boating is ideal in my new habitat........ Summer boating in 100+ degrees is not so enjoyable.....the fact that it was 84 degrees and 70 percent humidity this morning as the sun rose, had me wishing for the north.... Next summer I hope to make a return for a few weeks.....

So the boat belonged to an Islander's brother who had gone out to help with closing up camp. Caught fire at the dock. Luckily no injuries or property damage!

Could be an old MerCruiser V6 or V8 with a carburetor, and a wack-a-doozie start-up ignition problem that very quickly made too much gasoline go flash and erupt, like a sudden volcano.

When this happens, it happen FAST.
