If you mark your territory, will the bear stay away? Is the bear still on Mark?

I haven't seen it, nor have I gotten any reports. Of course, there may not be anyone left out there to report , so your guess is as good as mine!

Beautiful day!!!

You should go for a swim, water is cold but over 70 degree air and sun so you'd warm up right away.

People have been complaining about the time change, but I'm happy with the results...these morning trips have been occurring in the dark .

It must have been a bumpy ride in this morning. The wind was howling up on the hill last night, and it looked rough down near Diamond/Rattlesnake.

last night was pretty rough going out...this morning not so terrible...of course, we all have a different view of what bumpy and rough might be! ;-)

Ugh I hate the time change. I don't mind at all going to work in the dark, really don't like the dark afternoon/evenings. But I realize I'm not boating to work.

It was blowing hard this morning. There were some big rollers crashing into the tip of Rattlesnake this morning.

Pic out my bathroom window earlier.

you know we're sheltered from those west winds on East Mark... I had no idea ( too dark to see the true height of those rollers ) how windy it was until I saw the flag blowing at Glendale.

Do you have a departure date or do you play it be ear and see what the weather brings? I'm envious of the time you spend on the island/lake!

We kind of play it by ear...planning on having Thanksgiving out here, maybe move off that weekend or the next??? I don't have any clogged arteries this year so the move and pulling of the boat should be easier than last year! :-) I have taken a lot of stuff home over the course of the past month as well.

C-Nile will laugh at that skim ice as she breaks a path through.

You mention maybe pulling it this weekend or the one after ... seems like it's worth waiting the extra week so you can say you commuted into December.

well....it was so cold this morning ( 19 degrees ) that the steering cable was frozen in place...I discovered that after backing away from the dock, I couldn't turn the wheel! Loosened up after a bit, but made for an interesting ride in. I'm thinking it's time to call it a year...

Well let me tell you about yesterday's adventure...all 5 cats had to go in for rabies shots...if you saw the lake yesterday, nobody in their right mind would have been out there. First time I've seen my wife hyperventilate!

I haven't seen bear or any deer in quite a while, just ravenous cats!

I can confirm he had 5 cats on board, as well as a hyper-ventilating wife...She was ready to ditch island life after that ride.Steve- lucky for you the cheapest mainland house she found that she liked was $5mil. Better not plan on retiring soon. That's a LOT of tiki boat runs!

that would require year round around the clock tiki boat runs... would have to convert them to air boats!

I have wondered if you ever considered moving to the mainland or had a plan to do so? It seems so hard for you to leave every year.

Island life is different. You'd be amazed at how many islanders have "permanent" home within 15 minutes drive of their mainland dock. Some can see their mainland home from their island residence.

It's always very hard to leave...we love it there, love the privacy... I'd like to retire at some point, and buying mainland would prevent me from doing that ...ever!

The C-Nile did laugh at the skim ice in Mt.View, cutting a path to bring the pontoon in for the year... down to one boat!

yep.... these are the 3 that are hardest to corral as they're not thrilled with crates and carriers. I've had years where on the final day at the lake, one will go into hiding and I have to leave them for a day or to til I can get back out there. That won't be the case this year.

Glad you got them all corralled! We had a place on an island years ago and when we left one of the cats was no where to be found. I went back the next day and he was very glad to see me! I was very worried though.

Same thing last year....cat took off like a rocket ( in the house ) and I searched for an hour...must have found a good spot cause I couldn't find him. I went back the next night and he was sitting on the back of the couch, cold and hungry...much more subdued and easily crated! ;-)

I threaten to stay on the island with our dog (really her dog) and that's when it gets ugly! She says there is no way she's leaving without the dog!!

Understood. I had a medical problem once, made it through the night and headed to the boat and hospital. When we got to the mainland--where's the dog? We went back for her, then returned to go to the ER. As long as blood isn't spurting...play on.

Perhaps that's why so many islanders have more than one boat?

True story along the same lines...we had a birthday party out here for my wife 3 years ago. It was a great time and went deep into the next morning. We had some overnight guests that had to get to their vehicles, so still in a dazed fog, they got in the pontoon and we headed to Glendale where some were parked. Charlotte the dog came along for ride. When we got there, I dumped the mountain of trash we generated, wished safe travels to my cousin's headed back to NJ, then got back on the boat to take the rest to Mt.View where their vehicles were. As we approached the channel to the marina, I had a revelation...." Where's the dog????". I sped back to Glendale and sitting on the dock was Charlotte, with her best " what the hell did you just do to me " face. She hopped on board and we completed our mission, and I avoided decapitation by the wife , cause that would have been the outcome!
