I do most of my own repairs and remodeling but when the weather warms up and the boat goes in the water I usually take a break from my projects. I'm getting ready to start working on the house again and went to buy some buiding supplies today. It seems like everything has gone up 20% to 30% from spring.🥺 If you are looking to build or remodel be prepared for sticker shock!

There is a whole section about COVID on this forum.
Parts of the country just don't have the workers. There are shortages of many things as some factories are closed or with limited number of employees. Neighbor if mine last month attempted to purchase an upright freezer. None available back then. Not at stores and not online. |

Lowes seem to have whatever you need, if you are willing to put up with crappy service.

I bought 6 gallons of Olympic stain last fall at $42 a gallon but there was a mail in rebate at $10 per gallon. So it was a good deal. I bought 2 more this past spring at $48 a gallon. I had 1/2 of one side left to stain so I just bought another gallon at $56.

It's definitely a serious shortage out there with certain things such as Printers, Printer Ink, Refrigerators, Lumber, among many others.
I tried to get some environmentally friendly anti freeze (like I do each year) in preparation for my camp closing, and had difficulty in actually finding it. Just a short warning out there for others who may also need it for their place, i.e. get out and find it asap! |

Recently (2 weeks ago) found some 10’ PT decking to affect some repairs at Home Depot in Tilton, NH on a Thursday. About 30 boards left on a pallet that I needed 6 of. The supplies, when they’re in, go fast and are very green.

I reached out to the Meredith DPW director about replacing broken/missing uprights at the dock at Shep Browns several weeks back. He told me it was difficult to get the wood and the news about shortages was just coming out then. It's fixed now with high quality wood. Not the junk you get at Home Depot.

I'm having a heck of a time finding 5/4 x 6" x 16' cedar decking for my dock right now and the LV lighting that I just ordered for it quoted a lead time of "2-7 weeks, but no more than 10"...so I've got my fingers crossed to see that before the end of the year.

The difficulty with staffing has caused a shortage of materials and that, coupled with some extra "I have to stay at home so I might as well do some home improvements" demand, is going to increase prices.
Adding to the price pressure is the cost of changing facilities to meet covid standards. Hang on folks, it's about to get interesting! |

I actually spoke with them yesterday. They couldn’t tell me how many 14 footers they had, just that there may be some. I’m going to take a spin out that way tomorrow and see what I can get my hands on!

Last fall I was weed wacking and threw a stone at one of my Anderson windows. It was just a little star but I looked up the cost of a new sash and it was $300.
At that price I figured I would live with it unless it got bigger. Well it just got bigger and went across the whole window pane. That sash is now over $400 but now I can't live with it.
