Winter Harbor - Camp Ashbrook
Hi - I am wondering if anybody has any information about Camp Ashbrook which was located on Winter Harbor and I think shut down around the Korean War. It was located along Whitegate Rd. If anyone has any pictures that would be great. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum.
I googled "Camp Ashbrook in NH" and several images popped up. They look more like individual camps than youth summer camps |

Camp Ashbrook
From 1908 to 2005 my family owned property at the south end of Winter Harbor in the immediate area of White Gate Lane and I do not remember ever hearing of a Camp Ashbrook.
Aps makes the correct point that in the Lakes Region many people "name" their summer homes, so it is possible that at some time a private summer residence was named "Camp Ashbrook", but I do not think there was ever a camp, as in a commercial venture, in that area. |

60 Whitegate Road
Real Estate listing from a couple of years ago mentions Camp Ashbrook and indicates that this building was for the camp counselors lodge.
https://www.badgerrealty.com/p/60-Wh...mgsid_21312757 Copied text: Comments for 60 Whitegate Road, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 Consider the possibilities when you visit 60 Whitegate Road, a fabulous 1.30 acre lot with 226 feet of level shore frontage on Lake Winnipesaukee's Winter Harbor. The southwestern views from the spacious decking at the water's edge are spectacular with year round sunsets and all day sun. A sandy beach and sandy bottom shore along with crystal clear water make this a prime location for swimming, boating and fishing. The 1930's house was originally the counselors' lodge for Camp Ashbrook, and it has now been in the same family as a private residence for over 60 years. Renovations to the structure were started in 1995, but the work is still in progress and the house is being conveyed in its unfinished state. Bring your ideas to complete the work or better yet ... start over and build your new dream home on this exceptional waterfront lot that offers much privacy in an area of beautiful homes just minutes from all downtown Wolfeboro amenities. |

Camp Ashbrook
This particular house may or may not have been part of a "Camp Ashbrook", I don't know, but the house pictured was sold a few years ago and totally demolished, and a band new house was built on the site.

Camp guy, I'm with you. I think it must have been a private house. My great grandmother and great aunt owned most of the land above Whitegate- I think beginning where the little brown boat house is, because that is where my mother learned to swim- and up to about Port Wedeln. It seems my mom would have known something about another camp being there until the Korean War.

WinterChris, you could contact Badger Real Estate Company and see where they got their information for the listing. It just sold 2 1/2 years ago, so someone should still have some knowledge.
