Certain towns across NH including Alton are participating in a program that allows up to a 75 tax credit to maintain your historic barn for 10 years

As seen from Route 25, very top on the hill in Holderness: Camp Deerwood, (1945-2019 & going strong!) is building a huge, new post and beam style barn that will probably not be home to any cows, come winter. "No Sir, we don't keep no cows in this here barn, here ..... winter, summer, or anytime..... but, thanks for ask'n. This here barn, see, is for campers and their camp counselors, mostly in June, July, and August .... a-yup!"
Last September, a very nice house on the same spot was demolished, and this new, huge barn is now getting built. The way things work here, could be the town had that relatively new, nice, demolished house assessed as a non-camp, heated and foundationed, year-'round residence for maybe a taxable $6500/yr. So's, by tearing it down, and replacing with a seasonal big barn, activity center, the use goes from taxable to non-tax. Score one for Deerwood? Probably will be a camp activity center? With all that very pricey Squam Lake waterfront land, and camp buildings, the smart money says Deerwood must have figured some way, years ago, to affiliate with some church group or somehow, to become property tax exempt, otherwise Deerwood would probably have disappeared into a waterfront homes subdivision, years ago ....... and good for Deerwood to be building this beautiful new huge barn .... way-to-go ..... new Camp Deerwood big barn! Hopefully, a double discount with both no property tax and this 75% historic new-old barn construction, tax exemption program from Concord, should result in the Town of Holderness paying back to the camp a quarterly town-to-camp dividend ...... a double reverse tax ...... just like in football ...... and Camp Deerwood scores again! https://campdeerwood.com/barn ..... March 28; the weather has warmed up enough and the big roof is now on, keep'n the weather out, ..... not shingled yet .... a super, great look'n big barn .... go check it out ..... Rt-25, top-o-the-hill. https://deerwoodfoundation.org/news/ ..... barn construction, ........ also, ice skate'n Squam Lake, and snowmobile'n the camp
